discussion Fumes intruding into the cabin after decat on my e46 M3

Hi,

I recently decatted my '02 M3 SMG and now the fumes inside the cabin become almost unbearable after about 20 minutes of driving. I have heard of other owners mentioning similar experiences but can this be rectified or is it something that one just has to live with and drive with the windows permanently down?

Looking forward to hearing what your thoughts and experiences are on this matter.

I'm not sure whether you're joking ?

Anyway, it's not normal as all the harmful gasses, even after a De-cat, escapes from the rear of the car, unless the workshop did you a solid and pipe it directly into your cabin..

If the fueling is unwell, or the car is burning oil, you will smell it, but it should not stink you out of the car while you're on the move.

Go back and tell them to fix the hole they left in your exhaust. I would not live with this on any car, no matter how cheap or expensive car it is. Its definitely unhealthy.

It's perhaps not as bad as I described but there is definitely a noticeable increase in fumes which you can smell inside the car now.

I done my car a few years ago , an exhaust place in Epping , Cape Town done it and I never had any problems so far , almost four years on , gave my car a nice sound with the intake box.I also think you should take it back to where you had it done.

Thanks so much! I read that article and based on that and the reviews of others I went ahead and did not install the cat foolers because I had software done on the car. Lets see if I can make a few tweaks to the file loaded and then I will report back. Should happen sometime next week.
