Fuel quality

Hi fanatics

Have any of you noticed that the quality of fuel at different filling stations is not the same.

Since I've been forced to use the M Coupe as my daily driver, I was running low on gas and filled up at this Caltex that looks a bit run down, I had no other choice as the next garage was too far.

After putting in about 20L, and 5min later at a robot my car starting hunting for revs and the was lots of hesitation during acceleration. The car behaved like that until that petrol was finished and then I filled up at my usual Sasol garage, the car immediately went back to normal.

My question is do these garages that seem a bit run down add something to the petrol to make an extra buck or do they just stock 93 and sell it as 95?

fresh fuel definitely makes a big difference so fill up where its busy

I personally only prefer Caltex.
I once had a similiar issue by having to go to a dodgy Caltex cause i was low on petrol.
Afterwards had the same issue.

I don't think it's the brand but more than likely dirt in the system.

I never used Caltex, my car goes through it like water.

I prefer Shell, Sasol or Engen. BP used to be pretty good, don't know what happened, they don't seem to make it like they used to.

Total is also decent

Generally run down looking garages are just that run down.
The holding tanks below are probably contaminated and full of rust crap.

Best advice is what someone said, use busy - clean garages.. As they have have high usage and constant fresh fuel.

Also try not to fill up during the hottest part of the day.
Heard that you get a bit more juice when filling up early morning or late evenings... It is slight but every cent counts nowadays.

+1 garages that looks run down usualy have very dirty fuel due to the fact of how long it usually just lays there in the tank. Been having the same problem with the bp near my house. Not that thwy are run down its just it has changed more managers in the last year that I've lost count.

I had that problem when i filled in fuel from Total Garage,my car seems to run best on Engen these days:thumbs:

I filled up diesel once from a Caltex near me and noticed a huge power drop. I thought it was weird, so I filled elsewhere after running the tank dry and power was back. Then went back once more to that Caltex just to verify and again, major drop in power.
How can this be? This is a very busy station, so old fuel is definitely not the issue.

Engin near me also dilutes their Petrol and Diesel. :yuck:

With Petrol costing what is does.. Im sure some stations are trying to squeeze a bit out of the situation by diluting or adding crap.
On this note- surely there are serious consequences to our cars by them doing this..
Is there a governing body that goes out and tests fuel at stations to confirm standards???

I personally only fill BP in my car or Shell as an alternative, i dont ever use that Primax, i can actually feel the car restricting power with that fuel and the idle is very rough after that, also, always try using a bottle of injector cleaner every 5000km's, it makes a hell off a difference.
