Fuel Problem

Hi,please help. I have a 2003 E46 318i facelift, about 3 weeks ago the car felt like it was under powered. the mechanic said it was a spark plug that was not gapped properly. this was done and for 2 days the car ran smoothly. the same thing happened again, this time the fuel pump was changed. no difference was found and this time the car stalled with a quarter tank of petrol. when trying to start the car it will swing but not start up. when petrol was put in, it started. the mechanic changed the lifters in the petrol tank and the same problem was experienced, at a quarter tank, the car stalled. the car went back to the mechanic 3 time after this with the same problem. on these 3 occasions the airfilter box was replaced ( slight crack), the fuel pipes were changed and a new petrol tank was put in. no luck, the problem has still not been sorted out. the car still stalls at a quarter tank and once filled with a bit of petrol it fine. please advise.

Have you run diagnostics on the car? I don't know how the inside of the E46 tank looks. But maybe at quarter tank it cannot 'pick up' fuel anymore. As in a leaking fuel line in the tank. (I'm fishing here) also have you checked fuel pressure at the rail when it stalls?

Just ideas.....sorry I can't give you a more concrete answer

This sounds like a problem I had on my e39. The e39 has a fuel tank in 2 parts, and a pump moves the fuel from one side to another. That pump died on my car and at about 1/4 tank, my car would cut out. Had the pump replaced, and the car was fine.
