Fuel Filters

I've been doing a bit of thinking regarding my car. E90 335i N54.

Now I know that injectors are a common fault on this vehicle so I got to thinking if there was any preventative measures to be taken to help preserve the life of the injectors.

Now I'm quite a noob so please correct me if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

So the path ive taken with my cabby would be changing the oil every 10000kms, along with that I wanted to know if changing the fuel filter would benefit my car in the long run. I know that we have really crappy fuel and with my ex diesel cars they developed injector problems when using 500pp diesel so would the same theory not apply. The fuel filter filters impurity in the fuel thereby improving life of the injector???????

If so would it not be advisable to change the fuel filter more regularly? As I said its just something I thought about, i'm almost certain that I am wrong.

What is the cost of a fuel filter on our vehicles?

BMW only change the fuel filter every... I think it's 30 000km or every third oil service or something stupid. As per German standards.

Like you say, in SA our fuel quality is crap compared to the Europeans and so I believe in changing my diesel filter every single time I do a service/oil change. Every 15 000km I change mine and would recommend everyone else do this too. It's cheap enough to have to replace to preserve the life of or carry-out preventative measures on your BMW.

the n54 does have a fuel filter but its apart of the feeder pump from the left tank to the right, expect to pay upwards of R5k for the part...

the injectors on the n54 fail because the piezo electric chips in them get fubar with the heat, vibration and so on... don't try and plumb an inline filter as it will mess up the values between the lpfp and the hpfp..
