The ///M is not a town dweller, it's an open road bruiser!!!

Well the same to a degree counts for the 328i I would think like it does for my 330i...

Manufacturers always give you urban and extea urban numbers.
My M gives me 21.2 mpg combined and 100 RPGs ( roars per gallon) and that's all I now

Didn't you mention that you sold it?

By the way, I average around 9L/100km on open roads at an average speed of around 130km/h. Around 110km/h I get around 8L/100km. And my car doesn't over read. In fact in under reads by 2km/h

Same with the Supra. She is heavy on fuel! I average about 9/10L per 100km with the GTi. (urban) I very seldom get to drive highways.
And with the e-tolls added to that....blgh! :bangdesk:

Ps: Petri's 320d is awesome on fuel :praise:

In really, really heavy traffic and some very agressive driving, I sometimes hit 10l/100km also in the 330d :fencelook:

LOL, but tractors are different animals! Diesels are far less affected by town driving in general compared to petrols, this comes down to the generally more efficient combustion process of the diesel where there is far less heat energy wastage - a diesel will idle on fumes, whereas a petrol is just wasting fuel sitting idling. Both of my BMW petrols are heavy on fuel in town when sitting at low speeds, idling and lots of stop-start driving, but the moment they are on the open road the fuel consumption drops down to very respectable levels! In contrast, my Isuzu diesel doublecab uses 10 - 10.5 l/100 km in most cases whether it be town or open road driving...

I agree 100% Phillip. I had exactly the same experience with my Hilux 3.0 D4D. 10l/100km all the time.

Now the same M5 in quesiton used to give me 14l/100 but that was late morning/evening runs with virtually no traffic. It did see the upper side of the rev counter on a daily basis, but 14 was the average, doing about 100km a day. I used to use only 1st 2nd, 4th and 6th gear

My E34 540 in manual gave me 12 under the same condition.

Traffic is a big factor. The constant start/stop is not good for consumption. Short distance driving is mostly start/stop too. If you can get going and maintain a constant speed, it gets a lot better. I'm just experimenting with varying conditions. :)
