Hey Gents,

Have had my 125i Auto Coupe for about 4 months / 6000kms. Car is 2010, Auto, with 69,000km on clock and still on plan.

I cannot for the life of me get the car under 15l per 100km.

I am averaging around 330 kms on a 50 litre tank. any ideas what could be wrong?

The possiablity of options could be a long.
See that it's still in motorplan have it checked out by BMW.

On other note, I've also seen some interesting results from the guys at Carbon Doctor.
After they have worked their magic the fuel consumption on some cars dropped down drastically.

You only tend to get severe carbon build up on direct injection engines like the N54.. so i don't think a carbon clean will yield much in this case..

Ive had my 125i Auto for 2weeks now and I'm averaging around 11.5l per 100km, and that's driving extremely conservatively so I find that really heavy.

im sending mine back to BMW tomorrow to have it checked out.

I have also noted that my first tank was Sasol fuel which gave me a lot more Kmz than Caltex (I don't know whether this is in my head or not):nonono:

gonna Try out BP when the car gets back and see how it goes.

Bud What sort of consumption do you get on your 330i?

my OBC currently says 11.6L per 100, and that it primarily with town driving.

Basic rule of thumb for my car is:
12L/100 town only driving.
8L/100 highway (can be as low as 6.5 or 7 if very conservative).

I think I would have to constantly hammer my car to get 15L average.

Definitely not in your head different fuels give different mileage, worst is Engen. In my case Shell is the best also fill 3 tanks consecutively from same garage to determine.

N52 isn't direct injected so a carbon clean won't help.

These motors are thirsty in town but 15l/100km is waaay too much :( . I've never seen such figures even when driving like an absolute moron robot to robot. I think around 12l/100 (town) 8l/100 (highway) is the norm, and I have almost 3 times your mileage and no bottom-end torque. Maybe the manual gearbox helps too :) .

I also thought it wasn't.

On my ex GTI I also noticed major differences in fuel....But it was quite the opposite, Shell gave me the worst KMs on a take but it felt great, Caltex gave me great mileage and felt just ordinary, engen also gave me relatively good mileage.

On the 125i Caltex is dead, Sasol was nice, I am yet to try out Shell and Engen on this car...Ill use anything that will give me 500km on a tank:praise:

Thanks for all the feedback, what is abundantly clear is that my consumption is crazy, on the open road I cant get it below 12l/100km

Even my old e46 330i auto manged 13l when drilling it every day.

Car is being booked in.

Guys don't flame me :flyfun: buuuuuuuuttttt......

it seems that if I drive my car abit harder than driving like miss daisy, it is a lot lighter on fuel...

But on a serious note,,, I live 3.5km away from work so in essence I do a whole of 7km a day and my car doesn't even warm up so I drive changing at 2000rpm and I average 12.4l/100km

Yesterday I was doing some spirited driving on the way to watch the soccer and achieved 10.5l/100km.

I just don't get it....

That's heavy fuel usage! Shouldn't be that high unless you are simply sitting in traffic that is hardly moving all day long! These things HATE traffic and stop/start traffic.

Just for fun, check my car's econometer to see what my typical fuel consumption is based on the driving (and of course also CPT). I always reset my average consumption meter so, it tends to start high and work its way down, and this was after a fair amount of shorter town driving before taking her onto the N1.

[video=youtube]

Then later on just driving around some residential areas, I tend to try and keep my econometer under 10 l/100 km.

[video=youtube]

And yes, I also find that often, driving a bit harder and more assertively can be more frugal, but this comes down to getting up to cruising speed quicker, and then feathering the throttle to maintain speed. Also the choice of gears helps.

If the car is still under motorplan, I would have it checked - might be an O2 or MAF related issue.

I try not to mash the pedal when moving from rest, car doesn't respond anyway, rather use a certain amount of throttle and let the car "catch up" (if that makes any sense). I've managed to lower my consumption this way from when I first got it.

I have a manual though so it's easy to select the right gear for a specific situation. Obbzie could your autobox be at fault here somehow???
