Front bushes !

How such an innocent thread could degrade into a dirty version of garden and home :)

Allow me to bring things back on track... not ginna be easy after the thought of shaved twin bushes were brought up... so to say

OK... I can now give full report back on the poly bushes.

The quality of the bushes upon visual inspection is ok, was kinda concerned at first but upon clser inspection relaised it was all good.
There are a few tiny pin holes and a bit of extra polyurethane here and there ( we used to call it flashing on the plastic model planes ?? )

But how pretty it looks has nothing to do with how it performs... agreed ?!

I am all for DIY.. but this is not a 1 man job lol. If it wasnt for my heavy i would not have finished.
I used sunlight liquid to lube the shaft ( i am opening myself to a whole host of chirps arent I !! )

The first bush went on pretty easy, got it on far enough with my boet lying under the beemer and using 1 x leg as 1 x press :)
Got one hole to locate and off we went.

Second bush was a leeeetle tighter.. once pushed on it would slowly slip off ( and onto my forehead :censored::censored: )

BUT they are on... decided to buy new bolts from stealer as well for the bushes.

Sent car for wheel alignment next morning ( not required by the look of the results )

HANDLING:

Immediate impressions... WOW... now this could also be because i have gone from rattling good fit to new poly bushes.
But... WOW.
Car feels amasing and SOOO direct. cornering feels flatter and sharper.

I would have to say that if you want a silky smooth Beemer ride.. this may not be for you. I can feel the texture of the road through the steering wheel :drool:
And im pretty sure i can detect fresh white lines on the road too :mmm:

All in all... never mind the look of the bushes... they peform !!
I dont know what aftermarker rubber bushes would feel like... anyone tried so we can compare ?

I think i am going to just replace every bush front and back through George.. at those prices it is so cost effective !

Cheers !

Hahahahahahaha... Zaleonardz. I would prefer you dont stop. Nothing like a good laugh to iron out a bit of stress

Donovan.. i do have pics. On the cell phone... will make a plan ( need to do the photobucket thing i assume )

1 downside to the poly bushes.... i am driving harder, faster and for longer :pimp: so the fuel bill is going up :slap:

Sorry for the thread hijack but as we on front bushes I thought people may be interested.
Here's some pics of the bushes and control arms I fitted onto my E36.
I used Powerflex bushes and E30 lemforder control arms.

I also put on Powerflex anti-roll bar bushes

The difference is phenomenal. The polly bushes work well with the E30 Elbows
The E30 Lemforder elbows are a direct replacement on the E36 and are a good upgrade and also cheaper than E36 Lemforder elbows. It gives a more feel of the steering

Hi Costs ? Were Power flex bushes sourced locally ? ( Not : bushes sauced , Leonard !! )

'Fraid not,All parts were from Euro Car parts LINK which is local for me however bit far from you guys....Am sure you can get polly bushes produced locally but powerflex have a reputation for been the best....If you are desperate for powerflex bushes then I can get you the costs of them and price for shipping too. Also checkout the powerflex website LINK

Edit: I found 2 powerflex distributors in SA

would polyurethane not cause excess wear on other parts?

i have to do my bushes now and the mech that does my car says the worn bush may have made the end oval which will make the other bushings go fast as well as damage the steering components...
i just had my steering rack and power steering sorted so dont want to do it any time soon...has anyone else had this problem?

these repairs are eating my modding budget...

So my bushes on my E46 330 are also done, bad knock over bumps and a little movement when steering.
you guys recommend the poly parts over the rubber then from a stiffer ride/handling and durability side??

Poly or Rubber ?
IMHO rubber should do the job and help to get the ride back to standard i.e. as new . Poly bushes may make steering feel more direct , but feeling every bump in the road will soon be a pain in the butt and I would expect some rattles to surface .

but whats wrong with a little rattle on the surface when using rubber on Poly, and does Poly have a sister ? Cause you know you have to do them both at the same time...

ive read it 3 times and now have 3 different meanings to what you said...
are you saying that if you have poly bushes you need to replace all your bushes with poly? rattles i can live with but replacing expensive components because the poly bushes are to hard im not so keen on...or are you saying you want to F%$# Poly and her sister? :p
