From Supra to a family wagon

Im also curious, how are finding the engine and its characteristics, compared to the silky smooth B58 from the supra?
What are the differences you are finding?
Interesting question. I’ve only done a couple of hundred kms with the RS4, but from what I can tell, the Audi engine is not far off from the B58.

In terms of power delivery, the Audi is just as smooth right through the rev range, and has so much low down torque that there’s enough power as soon as you floor it. I’m not sure if it’s in my mind, but turbo lag seems non existent.
The power is just amazing from this engine and take off while ‘boring’ with the Quattro, is epic. It just does it perfectly time and time again, with no wheel spin. For a heavy, big car, it’s mighty impressive.
They feel similar in my opinion with the Audi definitely stronger and pulls harder towards the higher RPM. This is expected with the 100NM more torque.

Sound wise, the B58 sounds better. The Audi exhaust is much softer but ‘deeper’ tone. Definitely think they could have done a better job here. Cold start on the B58 was so much more exciting.

No regrets so far and don’t miss the B58. The V6 in the RS4 is proving to be mighty fine.

Also, how is the fuel consumption?
Fuel consumption from the time I took delivery is at 12.4l/100kms. This is mostly stop start traffic and some occasional highway driving. When I use it to work, and driving conservatively, using a mix of highway and urban roads, it averages 9.2l/100kms.

However, it’s closer to 16l/100kms with some spirited driving. Definitely heavier than the B58.
The odd running around to the shop, school, malls etc, I try not to look at the consumption as it’s thirsty in this environment.

Decided it’s already time for a change, so fitted OEM RS6 rims in 21”.

I personally like it a lot….OEM+, which will be the theme for this car going forward.

No updates, nothing done to the car. Went back to my stock wheels and sold the OEM RS6 ones.

We’ve done just over 10 000kms with the car. Had one service in April and used Audi Centurion. Service was good, and they gave me a courtesy car. Had a rattling/small knocking noise coming from the rear and had to wait for a part from Germany which took about 3 weeks to arrive. Waiting for them to have the courtesy car available, and my availability before I can book the Audi in as it’s a 2 day job.

Long-term fuel average is 12.6l/100kms. Bearing in mind this car is used most often by my wife, with minimal highway driving and most use in peak traffic.

I drive the car occasionally, and am still loving what this car has to offer. The power, comfort and bells and whistles with the added practically of being a wagon is a super package.

I’m considering lowering but with stock suspension it’s relatively low, which you would not think being a family wagon. But in 2 minds based on the fact it is a daily used car, and by my wife and not I. Was in Durban in Jan and we stayed at a place in Umdloti. My car couldn’t go up the driveway at the complex and they had to organise alternate parking for me. This was further away from my unit which made packing/unpacking a bigger effort. But I’m very used to these situations and have a wife who has become accustomed to these challenges 😅😅.

Big question is when it’s time to change, where to from here? Perfect upgrade would be the RS6, as once you’ve experienced a fast, sporty wagon not much else can compare. Or if we do get the M3 Touring, that would be a worthy upgrade.

But for now, the RS4 is fantastic. And with driving it occasionally, makes the experience more special and I still giggle and get goosebumps like a little child on Christmas morning.

Good to hear that it is treating you well.
The next upgrade is surely something from the broader VAG stable, so you won't have to worry about steep driveways...
Macan GTS

Car looks good.
I am sure I spotted it one morning next to me at the robots at the corner of Lenchen and Rooihuiskraal roads. I turned left into Rooihuiskraal road and this car went straight down Lenchen. I was in the white F30 with the Rennzport stickers.
