BMW SA make a big selling point out of the transferability of the motor plan. Unlikely to be implemented here.

:skit: The change is unlikely to have much effect on resale values, Mr. Sparks said, because the majority of lease customers keep their vehicles for 36 months and “those who purchase outright tend to keep them much longer.”

what a bold statement......and how can he expect people to be that stupid. :thumbdo:

If that happens here, I will be switching brands, I'm sure I'm not the only one exhibiting declining brand loyalty to a certain extent....

All the more reason to own older BMWs instead of the current and future garbage they produce...

Just keep in mind that the USA market and services are way different to SA market and after sales. We have motorplan, they don't.

They do have a motorplan whether it's optional or not. I don't know

If it drops resale value I personally won't mind as I doubt I'll ever buy new or close to new, I can't justify such depreciation buying relatively new. I'd rather buy out of plan.

There is something to be said for the peace of mind you get when you buy a 2nd hand car that still has some motorplan left. If this were to be taken away then there is no point in spending more on that 'newish' car and you may as well get something older and deal with it. Or, buy new.

To that end I hope this isn't BMW's way of trying to increase new car sales, because with people becoming wise to the pitfalls of depreciation new car salesmen have a tough job as it is, and it's not going to get any easier.

EDIT

Actually, by taking away the ability to transfer the plan they are screwing their second hand car sales too. I mean why buy an old BMW with no plan when you can get another brand which has this covered.. The costs they are saving would need to justify this, maybe they do.
