Forum system-related issues 2018

Hi all

The forum is undergoing major maintenance and upgrades in the next few weeks.

This is necessary for the upkeep of our security plugins, over and above general necessary maintenance and upgrades for the sake of keeping the forum user experience as pleasant as possible.

A few things on our to-do list:

- Upgrade the MyBB platform
- Upgrade the reCaptcha plugin
- PM system - slow responses
- PM system - showing sent PM's as "N/A not sent" although they are

Plugins - I have already installed new plugins that will become compatible and active once we upgrade the MyBB interface. There re a number of new ones that will add more features to the forum, one of which is a better image uploder that allows bulk uploads for images to be hosted on the forum itself, whereas the current plugin only allows for one image to be uploaded at a time.

If you have any suggestions for us, or know of issues you have spotted that we may not know about, please mention them here for us to consider during the upgrade.

Ironic that the 1st post would disappear :roflol:

I have noticed that the website does not resize correctly when browsing on an ipad (chrome) - issue started recently ...'view new posts' will be on the top right side of the screen instead of the top left

Once the upgrades are done we will be looking into having the forum made mobile-friendly so that those who prefer not to use Tapatalk will be able to do so without having to load the full browser on phones/tabs.

And yes ,the post-disappearing problem when editing is high up on the list :sorry:

Not sure how you actively handle blocked/suspect IPs.. But I have noticed from my phone sometimes the site refuses to load. I wait a while and it loads again, I get off my wifi and use mobile data and then it starts to load again.

Also, when replying to a post on a desktop PC, as soon as you start typing it slows down so it takes ages to type out a response

1. Same as coldfusion above.
2. Try add hashtag coding for example #Jb4

Odd. I wonder if this is only on particular devices.

Banned IP's will load the site with a message saying your IP is blocked. Will look into the suspect IP's as well.

How will the upgrade affect the daily browsing, will there be any forum downtime?

There is most likely to be downtime. I can't say how long or when exactly. This will all be revealed once we have the final plan of action in place.

I would like a multiple picture uploader, limited in Size and number of pics, but it would make uploading pics much easier.

Even if the limit is 5 or 10 pics, at a max of 1mb per pic or total 5/10mb

The one I have chosen will not limit sizes (I don't think) but will support multiple files, as well as a drag and drop feature to upload :thumbs:

1. View profile of someone
2. In the status section (ie: Online (Reading Thread xxxxx @ xxxxx)) - click a thread.
3. Voila - sometimes XML file is loaded :hammerhead:
