Former M Coupe owner back in the fold

Hey fellahs! I am a ZA-based motoring writer who's a former owner of a Z3-based M Coupe (99 model) and I am looking to buy and maintain a classic Beemer again and learn more about the people who love and own them. My current fascination: the E28! Am I mad?

And no to being mad for wanting an e28! I am so happy with my e28, it's a 528i and i use it daily. Would be nice to increase the e28 numbers here and in general, compared to the herd of e30's

I dont know what specific e28 you are looking for, but I am a gumtree addict and check religiously every day and im telling you they dont pop up often. This humble 520i has been the best one ive seen posted in quite some time, so just a heads up if you are keen its going for 35k (im sure you can bargain) and if its got full maintenance i would recommend it. Be wary bills can rack up on these things, something i found out with mine.

e28's are far more scarce than e12's because we only got it 3 years into its life cycle, and they were only produced here for about 4,5 years

Oh wow! A 520i is great, but I am looking for a 525e in particular (just love that long-legged eta motor). I went to see one in Bronze, 1988 model with 186k on the odo in Fairways, here in CT, just the other day. It was just a bit rough, including tired front suspension, faulty aircon and the paintwork was faded, with rust in the driver's door and the sill of the boot. It would not have gone through roadworthy in that state and it was going for about R30k or R25k as is. It looked too much of a project for my budget, but that beige beauty is sure a good one!
