Did you PM revo. You cannot expect a thump suck for something that has to be imported. Currency & shipping considered.

If you import legimately you have to pay 20% customs duties on car parts and 14% customs vat ..

As I've said on several occasions on this forum.. if you're gonna import car parts, add +-42% of the cost (for duties, vat and clearance charges)

@ Avi....All fine.
Glad you have some options now. The IC will make a difference to your temps and of course more power. Which ever option you go for, just take something that you can bolt on and off without hassle when you need to.

I wish someone can succesfully make an intercooler in S.A. for our cars without having to go the expensive import route...but until then i guess we have to pay the premium.

What are the benifits of running both an upgraded IC and meth ? Or is meth providing sufficient cooling on its own ?

Rennzport can provide you with the STETT products as well. You can't go wrong with either. But with AMS we can get you the best price and gaurantee a faultless install. Remember that the stock IC is so inefficient for higher boost levels & infact for daily running as well, that almost any good aftermarket IC will out perform it.

Revo will PM you costs tonight.

I have a number of STETT parts on my car: Chargepipe/Elbow/Diverter valve assembly and CIA (intake) on its way.
But you will have to do some major cutting if you go for the STETT IC because the IC is not a direct bolt on. In other words it is not fitted underneath the radiator but infront of it....so you win some and lose some...

There will be less of a benefit when running meth but keep in mind that your meth only turns on at a certain boost point. The intercooler also has some advantages such as less pressure drop across the cooler vs stock so you will have slightly better spool up and throttle response.
With the upgraded cooler you see a far quicker temperature drop of intake temperature when you off throttle (this is when the meth is not working) so you will benefit when you go back on full throttle by starting at a lower intake temp.
In overall I would say its a must have mod if you want to get the maximum out of your car at all times but I would rate it second last in terms of mods just before doing the exhaust.

@ Avi...go the AMS route even though it is a few pennies more but we know you are getting a good tried & tested product & if you are based in the Cape you have the support from Rennzport.

@ Kruzo....a very good question and based on a few of our own dyno runs, if you have meth the IC becomes irrelevant...but more testing should be done to be conclusive, which time i do not have unfortunately ....But here is the thing which i had to consider and the reason i went for both.

1. Once the IC is installed its there and does its job to bring temps down....you forget about it but reap the benefit anytime....anywhere

2. Meth not only lowers temps but also increases octane quality which an IC cannot do....hence delivers more power than an IC can by itself. But meth is a challenging install, it must be monitored, maintained and cost money to fill up even though its cost is marginal...while the IC only sits there in front and looks pretty.

3. But the other reason i keep both is because Meth only has value when it flows...it does nothing when it does not flow...and does meth spray all the time? No it does not...so on our heatsoak prone cars i like to know the IC is doing its job to help lowering temps when it is not flowing in my gauge window.

4. So an IC, Meth and aftermarket intake filter (eg. DCI/ram intake or drop-in filters) all play a role to combat heatsoak and increase power and don't forget that (tune) just in case (Mos1ted) pulls up next to you:)

Twinz, thanks for the info. Who is Mos1ted ?

What about having water sprayed on the intercooler to cool down intake temps ?

Mos1ted is a forum member here with a very fast 330d ...:)

I heard of this being done with water and NOS but can't vouch for its effectiveness.
Meth/water/N02 injected directly into the chargepipe....into the engine result in greater gains for cooling and power:thumbsup:
