Flywheel Costs

So i have been told by my mech that my flywheel is worn out and i will have to replace it because the car shudders on take off. Called Beras for a quote for a LUK flywheel R3500 told my mech he laughed it off saying there is no way a DM flywheel could be that cheap and it cannot be skimmed. Called the stealers today R11500 incl vat.

If one would have to be replacing their flywheel which is the best way to go.

R3500 is more or less what they go for... your mech is trying to run you for more money... the LUK flywheel is oem so no point in getting the one from bmw...

I paid R7000 for a lightweight flywheel with Racing Clutch, all new...

So, R11K is crazy for just a Flywheel.

Thats what I also thought coz i have just spent R7200 for work on my cylinder head since my car was smoking. Now R11k for a flywheel probably going to charge me R2k for labour.

Guess its time to change mechs i hate this part because i have been using him for a while.

Is it possble to get a LUK flywheel from any Midas store?

Autozone keep stock , maybe Midas have also . What about Sachs brand? from CBS or ferrobrake ?

Got a quote for R2,900 about 4 months ago for my E46 330i. Will be checking again in Jan if I decide to change it.

Lindo: Is your clutch slipping as well? I have read somewhere that the CDV (clutch delay valve) will cause a shudder on take off, although not all the time.

No the clutch is not slipping just a shudder on take of especially when im stuck in trafic.

Do you ever receive a slight shudder when you turn the engine off (foot off the clutch)? Or is it just during low RPM i.e. taking off or on idle.

There is a slight shudder when the car is idling i have never really noticed when turning the engine off.

I have been told by an ex BMW mach that the Sachs kit is better, Although the LUK is OEM. Has anyone used the Sachs????

I have the same problem as the initial post and Midas quoted me R5500 for the entire LUK clutch kit ,incl flywheel. Still not sure what to do..
