Flat spot on a E46 318i

Hi Guys.
1 of my buddies from work has been having a issue on his E46 318i. He has a flat spot around the 1000 rpm. He has plugged a diagnostics machine in and checked everything from air pipes to fuel system but cant find the fault. I am looking for any advice on what he can check to get this sorted. This problem is intermittent and he has almost given up.

Any help with this matter with be highly appreciated.

maybe we should do a poll on how many people on the forum pull off at 1000rpm... if it was cutting out at idle i would understand the problem

This seems to be a common fault on these engines.
Sorry I could not provide anything meaningful.

Most likley the VVT system, but how long is a piece of string...

I would look at the cam sensors

Not a real problem IMO, once my 318i is warmed up I'm pretty much always between 3500 rpm (max torque) and 5500rpm (max power), drives like a dream :rollsmile:
