flashing display on smg

Hi all, a buddy of mine just started up his supercharged smg after a month or so and the lights on the dash that display the gear position began to continuously flash while driving. Is this a serious problem or a simple fix ? Could the battery also cause this to appear?

Is the battery fully charged? It's known to mess with SMG if the battery's not in tip-top shape.

However, I suspect your buddy's car is just suffering from a sensor issue - namely, the hood / boot / driver's door sensors. ;)

If SMG detects that any of those aren't closed properly, the SMG gear indicator light will flash - check that the bonnet is closed securely and sitting flush, and also check that the bonnet sensor hasn't popped out of its mounting bracket. The bonnet sensor is the most common cause, so start with that first.

Glad he got sorted...

Iffy batteries and faulty salmon-coloured relays account for about 80% of SMG-related issues or funnies.

Exactly what Billybob said..

If it's a cog that doesn't disappear then it could also be the SMG "salmon pink" relay unit that's gone on holiday.

A simple fix...google has many how-to's.

Yup...

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the other 20% of SMG hassles can be traced back to the SMG pump.
