Hello

I recently got given my fathers 1997 318is, from a actual mechanical point of view its in great condition but age has taken its toll on a few things and I'm unsure where to go to either get the part or have the work done.

Basically its current problems of which I am only concerned about the first two of are.

1) Rear window rubber seal (This looks easy enough to replace myself, not sure where to get one though)
2) Passenger side glass slips if you open the window. (Zero confidence in opening the door to have a look without breaking something)
3) Fan only goes to 50% / aircon unknown if just needs re-gassing. (Totally out of my league)

I love the car and am proud to be able to call myself her owner, I just need a little info on getting these sorted out.

(I live in Durban)

Thankyou in advance

Welcome to the forum, congrats on your acquisition..

Some suggestions:

1. You can get the seal from BMW, call and ask for assistance. You should be able to share your VIN and get the part number/quote. Installation I would watch a few youtube videos or visit Glasfit/PG Glass.

2. Contact Window Master, Adam has done a host of friend's cars across brands, including many E36's and my E46. No one I trust more for window/sunroof/covertible repairs, he will give you solid advice.

3. Visit Canoon Cool and get them to do a test plus regas. Recently did it on my E46, thought the compressor was damaged and lived without the aircon for years, turned out it just needed a regas.

Let's see a few pics? The 318is is a gem of a 4 pot motor.

Which of the multiple BMW part sellers do you contact ?
Their website appeared to point to supertech but I dropped them a mail last night and, no response. I did not have time to call around today.
I'll probably get the seal installed by glassfit, just my luck I'd damage the glass taking the current seal off and they said they'd do it if I got the seal.

Thanks once more for the help.
