Feeler: Windscreen protection

Good morning guys

I trust you are well.

I am busy looking into a similar product to VPS but this is for the windscreen to protect against pitting, chips and damage/cracks from strikes from stones etc.

Would this be something that you guys would be interested in?

I have resisted getting a new windscreen after it has been repaired 3 times and then murphy struck in exactly the same place as a previous star chip which resulted in it cracking - which I have left and its after a year getting longer.....

When i bought my car from BMW Randburg they offered this to me. Windscreen already had a chip so i dint take it.

Right now an estimate on pricing is around R3000 but please don't hold me to it.

The advantage is that windscreens which are pitted already can still be used without having to replace them first as the adhesive fills in the pits.

If the screen is cracked or has "star" cracks then there is not much that can be done.

I'm not sure but I don't think insurance will pay for a replacement glass if it hasn't been cracked or broken so you will have the advantage that the glass will stay clear for longer without the pitting.

In terms of scratching from the wipers and dust, from what info I have on the film, it is resistant to this.

Also if you are not replacing your glass, your factory seal is still intact and therefore there is less chance of leaking after a replacement.

I think this film is especially beneficial to those who are on the roads a lot.

I had something similar on my Jeep Wrangler.
Because of the upright windscreen these cars suffered from chip screens.

I would imagine on our BMW's it would work a treat

My windscreen was 550 + 300 to install so not worth it for me.

Then again it is an old car..

What worry's me are the streaks from the wipers on the screen .

Sometimes there's dust and dirt or sand on when you switch on the wipers ( Or they turn on themselves) and this streaks across even on glass , I cant see how a film could resist that sort of damage repeatedly .
Would it end up similar to those lines you eventually find on smash and grab film from repeated opening and closing of the windows?

I love the idea though! But it does seem a bit costly.

Thank you to everyone for the feedback. I am meeting with the suppliers for this product next week and will raise all these questions with them and provide feedback.
