Feeler: E46s with faulty interior fans

Not sure if this should go in the "parts for sale" section or here, but anyway, here goes.

My fan speed is slightly erratic on my 330i. Apparently this is a common fault on the E46 and gets worse, until the fan stays on and eventually kills your battery (or fan just stops working). The solution is to replace the final stage unit (fan resistor), which has now been updated, due to the poor design on the initial ones.

The cost at BMW is just around R1350. Was wondering if anyone else has this problem or needs a unit, as I'm thinking of ordering a few units while I order mine. Not sure of the exact costs, but should be just under R1k.

So, just a feeler, if I do order. Would anyone be interested in new replacement units, assuming they are about 30-40% cheaper than local.

Hi... I just bought one from BMW... I opened up the panel below the dash on the drives side(right side) I see the FSU and one splin screw. I removed the one screw but can find the other....It has this plastic cover near the FSU thus making it difficult....

How do I remove this FSU? I have a 318TI Compact.

Please help!!!!

The 2nd screw is a b!tch - took me a good while to find it too. Basically, u can't see it, but if you run your finger along the top, you should be able to feel it. I used a smallish screwdriver and removed it by "feel" only.

Mine is on the blink also, and have orderd a new one from the UK. It cost me R680 and thats including postage from Motormec UK Ltd. I orderd it on Monday and they say it takes 10 to 14 working days to arrive in the post. All the places I went to and those that had secondhand range from R740 to R850. Whats the use buying a seconhand one if it has a certain liftime to the part for I have the Upgraded finalstage resistor in my facelift and still they dont last, so buy a new one. Will let you guys know if it arrives about 5 to 7 working days to go.

also check the plug on the Final Stage resistor for they tend to melt a bit and also contribute to the problem not making contact and BMW wants to sell you the whole loom. But Ive managed to find the part numbers for the plug and pins for the Final Stage Resistor

The plug housing P/N is 8 377 762 and pins you will need is the followning
you need 4 X P/N 61131376206 (Snap-in receptacle 2.5 dimensions 2,5-4,0MM²) and 1 X P/N 61131376202 (Snap-in receptacle 2.5 dimensions 0,5-1,0MM²)

If some one wonts to know how to insert the pins in the plug let me know. but if you dont have the tool like I have to extract the pins then once its in its in.
