Fastest CSL in the Land?

Well done to Batty Boy running 12.8 today. I think that's the fastest CSL in the land, unless someone corrects me. And I think that's also the fastest NA E46 SMG around. The reason I emphasize SMG is that I believe that if the car had a manual 'box it would be 0.2-0.3 quicker. Manual has a distinct advantage in a drag racing application. One can warm the tyres, choose your launch rpm, improvise with the clutch off the line, & I even believe one can shift faster. SMG isn't that quick at shifting, especially a high rpm shift in a high horsepower car. Tends to drag the shift.

Also heard fromt he track that East London is 0.3-0.4 slower than Killarney. Everyone today said it's the slowest track around. E46 M3's run 14's there, even worse than altitude times.

Anyway, well done Batty, let's go to ODI & lay the smack down!

Hey boet congrats that is a serious time! He equaled raymond pillays record now.. Have anyone done the effort to check the m/s to see if batty isn't the new record holder? Was the event MSA? Should be coz the GP track is an MSA accredited track!

I agree on the SMG launches and gear changes can be improved with a manual box!

Took Loco down to East London for BoostWars on Sunday. The car felt very strong there, so much so that I really battled with the poor surface and the added horses. Even with the semi's down to 0.5 bar pressure, the wheels lit up into 3rd. Considering the other competitors from Cape Town who themselves were 0.3 off their own personal best time at Killarney, I can firmly state that Loco is capable of a 12.5 at a proper track at the coast. Even though I set myself a target of a 12.99, I was somewhat disappointed that I could not lay the power down and get a lower time. But that's racing, I guess.

Loco is now officially the 5th quickest n/a 6-cylinder in SA, it's just a matter of time before we work our way up. Thanks to Sherwin from Xcede Performance and Jose from Chaos Motorsport for their superb work in tuning and setup.

Thanks, yup, it was MSA approved event. But I think if Raymond goes down to the coast, he'll be in the top 3.

Having lived in East London i can vouch for the poor quality of the surface, it is a pulic road when not closed for racing and as such, see's a lot more abuse than other tracks around the country. It's difficult to launch most cars as the bumpy surface makes you scramble for traction. Great time dude!

Well done !
This time was done at the coast.
I suggest a showdown where conditions are equal for all competitors to determine the fastest N/A 6 cylinder M3 in the country.
Raymond Pillay's time is at the reef.
Smooth , organise another day at ODI for the showdown.

Congrats dude!!! What was your exit speed? Also just curious to know what Number is your CSL out of 65? Is there anything else that can be done to reduce weight on a CSL?

Joel the cars above your on the list are scaffholding with nr. Plates! If weight penalties was added you would be miles ahead! The CSL is lighter than normal 4pipe but not close to the weight of a butchered escort!

Raymond's E30 M3 will eat everyone at the coast. I've raced him a few months back at Dragwars and he raced me into the ground. His car's lighter than mine, and he races with ET Drag Radials, where I can only race with semis. Furthermore, SMG limits me to a proper burnout, and limits me to rev past 4k on pull-off. So all in all, I reckon I'm doing just fine under restrictive conditions. Imagine if it did have a manual box, proper rubber, sideshafts and all that.

I have no experience whatsoever with E46 M3's (other than a few test and joy rides with buddies) but if one was to put a manual GB into a CSL, does this affect the MDM at all? I know the CSL was designed to be better than a standard M3 around a track, but if straight line drags is your thing, then is fitting a manual box defeating the purpose, or is there still just as much fun to be had in the CSL (even though in essence it's no longer a CSL)?
