The dashboard temp gauge in my 1999 328i has failed; using a computer-generated "sweep" command does not move the needle, which sits pinned to the righthand edge. The only way to buy a replacement is, I am told, to buy a whole new $950 (!) instrument pod; the gauge is not available separately. I am also told that snatching one from a wreck will not do, as they are keyed by number. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a workaround?
