sorry to hear and see the damage but, honestly, if you arent going to name and shame then there is no point in this thread.

Agreed

Agreed. They treated you like crap and your car even worse. Totally disgusting that they could treat any car with such disrespect. Pigs! Name them for the benefit of the fellow fanatics and report them to an RMI or an ombudsman. If they get away with this they will just continue doing it.
Its not even my car and this makes me mad.
Really really sorry this happened to you.:sorry:

Thanks for all the replies guys and thanks for reading, this car is currently in a state however i am just relieved that i have the car back, i was starting to get afraid that more could go wrong with this car while being at this workshop, to all the guys that want the workshop named- i understand where you guys are coming from, i honestly would want the same, this is a public platform, i just dont want to blurt out a name and there be any implications ( i am being considerate of this workshop when they were never considerate of me or my car ), by the way i got the car back yesterday so everything that is going on is still fresh for me as it is for you, to the guys that want the workshop named- thank you in advance for understanding.

Sorry for all the trouble you had to go through. Unfortunately I am in the motor industry as well, and it is garages like these that is giving the good workshops out there a bad name. I would really reconsider and NAME AND SHAME the garage.

This is an introductory thread in the New Members Intro section. Therefore OP does not have to qualify himself for posting the above. I would also like to have the place Name and Shamed to protect future Fanatics from visiting this place. If someone else wants to post the name (OP did provide the location of the workshop above) then they are more than welcome to do so.

There are so many workshops in Durban, I wouldn't even know where to begin looking. He had a really bad experience, name and shame to protect others from the same fate. There can't be any implications for stating an experience.

OMg :( This is terrible , really heartbreaking to read , Dont know what to say , I would be devastated if something like that had to happen to my car , It really looks like they were using your car for parts , Honestly you need to have it checked out by a good reliable workshop, See what else has been taken off damaged or missing.

I'm in Durban and there are many others here also from Durban , And you mentioned that you made your decision on where to take your car by reading posts from this forum . You have to tell us the name of this workshop, So others who wont make the same mistake .

Please tell us . And don't worry , the guys here are awesome and will help you as best they can . Do you have any before pictures?

Sorry for your woes OP. I know first hand what it feels like to deal with a few of the so called specialist workshops in Durban. Sadly the ethics and professionalism of most of these workshops are like the Loch Ness monster ie. We only ever hear about it. The biggest problem with these workshops is that the owner was / is the best mechanic but is no longer a working mechanic. He now has a largely unqualified workforce working on customers cars at cheap labour rates despite charging the customers at qualified labour rates.

The one positive out of this experience if you can see it that way is that this will force you to learn and do more DIY on your car  because that's what happened to me

Normally an intro is something all fanatics look forward to reading to. We get exciting that another member has joined our ranks and we'll wishes and congrats come in from everyone. That's what I can safely say everyone one of expected to read and see when we opened this thread.

After reading your thread one can only see what a ride you were taken for. most of in this community really do sympathise with you, and the reason I use the word sympathise is because we ARE fanatics, not just normal car owners. We take pride in what gifts the Lord has afforded us and go out of our way to make sure they in tip.top shape.

To see one of our own fellow members have his pride and joy ripped apart and not worked on with the integrity and respect that a WORKSHOP suppose to be showing towards ANY client is utterly disgusting. Our hearts go out to you as a community and at the same time you have my respect for being so modest and level headed about it. However I think a situation like this can warrant you to loose you head as well.

I respect your decision not to disclose the name of the place that seems to have used your car a donar for others, however I share the sentiments of those who are calling for you to name the place.

Reason being, it's unethical to conduct a business in the way they have done with you from start to finish, and as a member of the Fanatics community, naming them will in the least bit stop any business going to them from our side, and word of mouth is the best form of making sure of that. Naming them would be the best thing is assuring that no one has to go what you have through at this present moment, not only was it a financial burden, but you safety was at risk driving the car back at night. No one else should go through that.

I hope that you find a reputable workshop that will repair your car and treat it with the respect it deserves and I hope you will reconsider naming them. Best if luck, of you need help please let us know...where we can assist we will.

Welcome bud. I am shocked at your experience and only can sympathize with you. I agree with most of the guys that you need to name and shame this workshop. That will be a positive contribution from your side, it will prevent others from falling in the same trap. I hope your car gets sorted soon.

Good morning guys

Just wana say thank you for all the support thus far, i have read and considered everything that everybody is saying, thank you for all the offers of assistance, thank you for reading, thank you for understanding.

An update- Got home yesterday evening, decided i would start the car up, try and clean what i can and move forward, so i start this car, put on the radio and put the drivers window down, this is the window i paid R1400 to get repaired ( motor and mechanism replaced ), window goes down, mechanism breaks, i can hear the cables tangling, that was it for me, shut the car down, went into the house , called the owner and expressed my shock and disbelief , in all fairness, he apologised, guys i honestly dont know what was changed if anything, a reconditioned unit should not fail in a day, i told the owner that the car has a very bad vibration, i sent him a pic of all the covers in the boot.

The owner said that he will collect the car from port shepstone ( on the south coast where i am from ) , i type this in a very calm state, however this experience has now really started to affect me to the point where this experience is all thats on my mind.

When i decided on going with this workshop although they were doing me no favors as i am a paying client i felt that i am at the mercy of the workshop to deal ethically with me, the cost to repair these cars add up quickly and the last thing i wanted was to be a customer with an attitude, lets face it, alot of guys will spin any story to extract money out of customers, with this back ground i chose to be understanding and accepting.

based on what forum members are saying i have decided that i am going to meet the guys at some point , i did say that i would NEVER send this car back to them but my other half has convinced me that they should indeed pick this car up and sort their mess out, some sort of direction will assist guys in kzn especially, i dont know if i will get a call from them this morning, i will update, i am still at the place where i am not going to name them just yet, i will however give the name of the road that this workshop is on to any forum member that pm's me, google will point you in the right direction, once again , thank you for understanding.

have a great day to all.

Thanks German_spec, through this experience i got to read up on Wendy Knowler as well, i have read alot about our rights as consumers, i think it would only be fair to mention that the owner of the workshop drove down from Durban, i pointed him to the outside sensor issue, showed him the broken window, showed him all the covers in the boot, he drove the car up to Durban so he will get to see just how bad the vibration is as well, what an inconvenience, however its simple, do the job right the first time, treat customers vehicles with respect, thanks once again, have a good day.
