Factory alarm help

I bought a 318i E36 (I think 1994 model) with the 1.9L 16 valve motor.

It has some sort of alarm system which seems to go off twice a week while parking. The indicators and headlights flash.

I have no idea what system it is. It has a sensor as in pic and the red LED above the gearshift next to lighter area. When locking the drivers door, I can turn the key a bit more anti clockwise. If a window is open it will close while holding the key in that position. The red LED will also flash fast for a few seconds then blink like a normal alarm.

Can someone please indicate exactly what this system is e.g factory alarm etc. I need to fix it or get it to behave like a working alarm system.

Its that one in pic with circle. Located similar as aircon buttons. There are 2 for aircon 1 for rear window and the 4th is the sensor. Do you see it? The pic isn't from my car but its identical.

No. I mentioned the pic is just for illustration purpose as the aircon section under radio is identical.

Is that sensor not for interior temperature when using the auto function on the air con system . The red light on the console will flash to indicate alarm set . the indicators and headlights will flash together , may be the switch under bonnet or other loose connection . good luck .

This is a 1994 E36 I think. Does it come with "auto aircon interior temp control" function that you mentioned? I didnt know that. The flashing of hazards & headlights happens 2-3 times a week while the car is parking.

But that is not really the issue. The problem is that I am trying to establish what system is installed as I assume the car came from the factory with the system. I checked behind glovebox, but there are no alarm box etc.

Here are 2 more pics of the sensor and red LED in my real car.

Not to clued up on the e36 system, but it might be the bonnet switch as this usually what causes this kind of thing on e46's.

You have the Oem (factory alarm system)

All 1992 to 1995 e36 came with it.
Its got 12 triggers , all side windows, all doors, bonnet and boot.

Common problem points are the 2 front doors, boot or bonnetswitches.

To test, arm your alarm, give it a few second, then start pushing and pulling slightly on the doors and bonnet & boot.

To disable faulty trigger is as simple as unplugging it from the harness.

Doorswitches, (doorlatches) double as the door triggers. Open the driver door and look into you door latch located on your B pillar, you'll propably notice its worn.

Thanks for the info. Where can I get diagrams of the exact location of all these triggers. The previous owner also mentioned that it used to make a noise when alarm went of, but does`nt anymore. I found what seems to be the horn.

What would my best option be. I wound like to have the original system work properly, but I read somewhere about after market systems which will probably be expensive.

I recommend original system, you can try searching on the internet for BMW E36 electronical manual. But bmw don't like to give out details about there alarm and emoboliser systems. The alarm hooter is located just behind the front bumper, drivers side. If you have any questions or queries pm me.
