discussion F8x M3/4 Out Of Plan Maintenance & General Costs

Good day Fanatics!

Hope you're all well.

I've been on the Forum for a minute but never got around to formally introducing myself.

My name is Justin and I drive a Fiesta ST180. I've had the car for close to 5 years now and love it to bits. However, the BMW bug has bitten and now I'm seriously considering getting into an F82 M4. It's a 2015 model, 51 000kms and just out of plan.

Could those that are familiar with the model please offer some guidance regarding overall ownership costs (servicing, preventative maintenance, tyres etc..)? Tried to do some local research but can't find much. If there is a thread that covers this topic, please point in the right direction.

I owned a 2015 F80 M3 for around 18 months. It did have plan but during that time it never skipped a beat. I think these cars are pretty strong in standard guise, however I stand to be corrected by those who are more familiar to the model.
Overseas the crank hub issue seems to be a concern but haven’t heard any incidents in SA. One who works on these cars often will be able to advise you better on this.
You won’t regret the decision, M3/M4 is a charm

Welcome Justin.
My advice would be to give the parts department at bmw a call and get pricing of general service items.
Filters
Spark plugs (could only need change every 80 000km or so but could be mistaken)
Brake pads and discs (this does scare some - My M2 costed R18k for front discs and pads - it runs the same part as the M3/M4.
Also check out the bmw extended service options - not sure if it extends to M cars but that could be an option.

Then research warranty options out there, there are quite a few but not sure which is good. This will help for the unplanned event.

Tyres could be anything from R15k a set to R25k depending on what you go for.

For me i weighed up prices of the major components engine and gearbox when I got quoted on those I traded the M4. I miss my M4 though probably should of held on for a bit longer

Hi, i had my 2016 m4 for little over a year.
Tuned with MHD stage1 and downpipes although it was hardly driven ,it ran well no prob but it was a 2015 built car
Extremely loose at the rear with just stage 1.
I have since changed the car for a 2017 competition pack M4 and new MPS4s tryes.
Way better traction and handling.
Will tune it soon but can tell it will definitely hook up better.

Would keep it stock but you're right, good tyres are essential.

What does a set of PS4s run you roughly?

I needed 285 30 20s , was R6800 a tyre from tiger wheel in pinetown.
The tyre is noticeably better than the pss star rated,
The ones that i replaced were the pss with about 30% or more life on them

They expensive but will last me quite a long time here in durbs, thats the good and bad, no tracks near by .
Dealer is cheaper but only MPSS in stock in those sizes.
