Very interesting stats.

A shoot in the dark - has the F80 M3 not loss its "specialness" due to the M3/M4 badge designations? It kind of felt that way to me. The e46 M3 and e90/e92 M3 evoked very special feelings and desirability in me.

Thanks for the stats.

In an SA context, do you think that performance SUVs will end up cannibalising performance sedans? - So, an X3M will outsell an M3. Same for GLC63s vs C63s. Especially given the state of our roads, where having a commanding driving position has its benefits in the daily traffic grind among taxis and trucks.

I think that performance Coupes will still keep their place, for those drivers who do not have to worry about practicality or do not care about being dwarfed by other other vehicles in daily traffic.

Very interesting. The F80 is a special car. Seems the E90 is likely to become quite sort after in a few years time. It will be nice to see the SA sales figures.

@Twinz: I think splitting them added more specialness to the M3. I am biased but I think it looks better than the M4 and I see less of them on the road than M4’s.

However the M4 does have a larger following. I used to constantly need to correct people who called mine a M4. I just ignore it now.

@Mr_Y: I don’t think so. I for one would not want a X3M over my M3 or any MSUV. I bought the car to have a performance CAR that can still fit my family. I think M SUV’s appeal more for those that want something Fast and Loud but don’t care much for dynamics and handling etc.

In saying that, it might take those that are just looking for a fast and loud car, and leave us purists to continue driving M3’s etc.
