F320 and F328

Hi Guys,
I went into a stealership today to look for an upgrade and the sales person told me that instead of purchasing a 320D for +-R30K more I should rather purchase a 320i and upgrade through BMW to a 328i? He said that ut would cost be R30K to do this. He advised that the 320i and 328i are exactly the same engine block just different software and a "few" hardware changes.

is this true?

So reading the threads, there is no conclusion to this argument. It seems that turbo and compression ratio is different on both. Pistons is same

Look closely...the pistons are different...

From 2014 onwards. Pistons in 320i and 328i are the same. I have this information from Rosslyn plant.

To the author , purchase 320i and use JB plug and play. You will have 328i power immediatelty or purchase 328i. You wont go wrong with both as long as they are 2014 models. Launch control is now standard and easy way to know the model.

No guess work here, I have two F30 320s and a 3rd one that was traded.

My two cents worth.

Pistons may be the same but there must be other variables like compression ratios and other hardware related differences that SW or a tune alone won't give the same end results.....

Maybe someone could list a like for like or unlike between the 2014 spec engines to put it to rest!

It would definitely make sense that the majority of components are shared to reduce manufacturing costs....just wish these savings would filter through to the buyer.....half a bar for a decently spec'd 320 is insane when you consider the other options in the motoring industry! :(
