Right, BMW does the Alpine sound upgrade for the F30 - R10 400 (including VAT) excludes fitment (2.5 hours). :blab:

This upgrade is not even negotiable, just waiting for the dosh to come in!

BTW - M Sport exhaust for 328i = R9 000.00

So bank on +/- R800.00/hr labour.... R2k... xtra

Please tell me which dealer you got that quote from? I've now tried 2 (leo haese and cedar isle) and both told me the alpine upgrade wasn't available for an F30.

I've got a 2012 320D...

Hi guyz

I bought a F30 BMW this year .I ordered HK with it . It cost me R3500 more to upgrade from the standard sound and I think it the best move ever also I have a DVD player so it comes with a center speaker and surround sound just like a home theater . It is a massive difference from the stock sound .

From what I have read online the same kit is used to upgrade both the F30/1 and the F20/1 stereos and the kit consists of:

1 Amplifier
2 larger speakers
2 smaller speakers
Wiring kit
Cable (not shown)
Left Window Frame Trim
Right Window Frame Trim

Some info on the UK site: BMW UK - Alpine Audio

Speak to Walter from BMW Centurion. There is no stock in South Africa though so you have to go pay at BMW from where they will place the order. :joy:

For 10k I was hoping they'd upgrade the subs too. I really wish there was an alternative. The distortion and complete lack of sound at certain frequencies is driving me nuts.

Will putting an amp on the existing subs actually make a noticeable difference? I find the current bass to be completely flat and lifeless.

I doubt the dealers would even notice if you installed aftermarket sound. And they'd probably only void anything to do with the sound not your entire motorplan.

I saw a post on the European site stating that the Alpine retrofit is only available for left-hand drive F30's.

Anyway I checked on RealOem and it shows a part-number if you say your F30 is left-hand drive. If you say it is right-hand drive it says not available.

I really wanted the Alpine upgrade.

Take the part number to BMW and see if they can order it if that's the route you want to go. The guys in the parts department are useless. Well in cape town anyway. Personally I wouldn't do that. If you're only replacing the speakers what are the chance of them ever finding out and if you have to use an amp make sure its hidden. I doubt they will even car if they find it. You will get far better bang for your buck going aftermarket.

I've ordered window trim for my E90 before, first they send an e46 trim, then the wrong side E90, then 3rd time lucky they were right.

Ordered dust covers for my E90 xenons, they sent the halogen ones first.

Had a little rear bump had to order a new taillight the sales guy was adamant to the panel shop that there was no such thing as a "blackline taillight" and there is only 1 type of taillight for the E90. I had to get these morons the part number so they could order it.

I'm personally willing to spend in the region of 10k all in. I have very little interest in DIY though, so I'd probably be willing to spend a little extra to get a proper installer to do the work.

Me too... but not after yesterdays interest rate hike... AFAIC, all modding just got placed on hold.

there are one or two installers on the speednsound forum who will be able to assist in sourcing the gladen stuff. I put a post there when doing my research, although my budget was lower than yours.
