F30 issues and service

So its not new news that the F30 guys have been getting allot of flack over the issues with there F30's, and im about to join the crowd.

Last week i took my car to Forsdicks Pinetown for suspension knock,

I met Brian and Stephen there, Stephen took my car out and came backing saying its the bushes on the left and he also mentioned theres a part they need to change on the steering column cause its making a noise, i said fine and we ordered the parts.

I rebooked the car for this Tuesday and it went it and i collected the car later that day.

I drove it and it was fine so i left but just as i get home i heard the same knock on the right side now and also a humming noise coming from the left when going over 110 km/h. I phoned them up and i need to take it in tomorrow to check and rebook and order parts.

After all this you would think i would be pissed of but you would be wrong, because of the excellent service i recieved from the guys,( i think Brain called me 10 times the day the car was in) so im happy to take my car back in again.

So even thou bmw standards have dropped all it take its very very very good customer service to keep a client happy.

I will give a full run down on all parts replaced and work done and reasons in a few days after everything is sorted out so if you have issues you will know before taking your car in

I had the humming sound just after the cars first service in March this year - Wheel alignment, balancing, new tyres and wheel bearing tested, lower engine covers modified and still have the humming sound - Almost 4 months now with 6 visits to the dealership and tests with the regional manager and the problem still persists

Ja its a tricky one that. Mine strangely also started after a service. Wheel bearings were replaced, engine covers inspected and removed. I was there every time they worked on my car and when I left it was gone for a while. My car has 35000km on clock now and tyres are about 15% front and 20% rear before the are finished to legal limits. The humming has mysteriously dissapeared and has not yet returned again.

1. I would like to know what tyres you have on your car currently and size?
2. What year model is your F30?
3. Who did the alingment (BMW or did the use an outside party)?
4. Is your tires featherd on the outside edges?
Mine was Bridgestone Potenza S001 225 50 17 .
If yours are different then I think we can rule out tyres and focus on engine covers, wheel alignment, that might cause the problem.

Great, the front end on my nearly new 320i is knocking quite badly. Sounds like it's a 30 year old banger with no bushes left.

Needs to go back to the dealership for them to sort it out, along with a filler cap that is not sitting flush with the body. Never had any issues at all with any of the Beemers I've had over the years.

I fitted brand new Bridgestone Potenza S001 225/17/50 tyres and still had the noise so the tyres are not the cause - The car came with this brand tyres and there were no issues from new. My car is a 2013 model. BMW did the wheel alignment and all other checks/work.

During my last visit they said that a new belly pan will be ordered as this may be the cause with wind noise - waiting a month now for the cover

Well, car has been with Auto Glen all week, pick it up tomorrow. Seems they have replaced the steering rack on request of BMWSA. Let's hope that solves that then.

Ok so all sorted,

They replaced both control arms on the front and bushes
They did wheel allignment
They also found a bolt that holds the suspension/shock mount or something was loose and screwed in at an angle and broke the threads so they brought in engineers to rethread the hole.

No more knocking noise and no more humming,

Had a 320i standard as a courtesy car for two day and im so happy i went with Msport because the steering on the standard feels hard thin and plastic.

:praise: Thanks for the update. Tell me when your car is switched off and you wiggle the steering do you hear a knocking noise?

JustNN

@Iceman, nope not anymore, they replaced my steering column covers and something that was vibrating, and with the bolt sorted out there is no more knocking what so ever

Yes no nocking when Car is on. But with ignition completely switched off and you wiggel the steering? As far as im told they all do it

:nonono:

all the dealers do nowadays is throw new parts at the car in the hope they "accidentally" solve the problem.

most of the technicians have never had to problem solve or carry out any fault finding, they plug it into the computer and replace the 1st part on the list of possible causes, and carry on doing this until its fixed or the customer goes elsewhere...:thumbdo:
