F30 - Cracked Radio Buttons

Hey guys.
I noticed that the radio/shortcut buttons (1-4 & 8) on my F30 have cracked. I only noticed it last night, as the dash lighting can be seen through the cracks. I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same issue. Maybe inferior plastics? :fencelook: 'cos I don't use them much :dunnoanymore:

It's similar to the photo below (note that this is not my car, mine is not this clear)

Mine still looks new after 5 years, could be the sun shining on the plastic making it crack?

Never used mine, to be honest I don't know how to set it up lol

I park in the shade almost all the time, so I doubt that it's the sun. It took me a while to learn that the buttons are not just to programme radio stations lol

Hi Bro, when you take the car to a carwash, tell them not to use any dash chemicals to clean your interior. The plastics used in the F30 is not inferior, mine still looks good and the car gets parked in the sun almost every day. some chemicals found in the cleaning sprays are not good for the plastics

But seriously thats not cool.

What did the dealership have to say about this?

I haven't spoken to them, just wanted to gauge if anyone else has experienced this. I will get in touch with them.

If that's the case these chemicals should not be used at all :thumbdo:
I will definitely be requesting that they not use chemicals on the interior from now on.

Take it to the dealer. There was a bad batch of these numbers. My 2013 model is still fine. but my Nephew had a 2014 model with 15000km on clock and his cracked exactly the same. BMW is aware of this issue.

Is the button cracked, or did the paint on the button shrink causing it to split? The cheap rubbery coating BMW applies is shocking.

The buttons are cracked.

That coating is peeling off in certain areas on my E90. But I think it's held on pretty well for a 12 year old car with regular usage.

Just checked our 2016 F30 320i LCI and two of the buttons are cracked, I thought it was just the paint that's scratched , looks like the button itself is cracked . This car is still a bit new and never parks in the sun and we dont use any chemicals on the interior . Just wipe down with a damp cloth.

Forgot to provide feedback on this thread

BMW replaced the buttons on a goodwill terms. Will see how well these will last. Apparently there's quite a lot of F30s with this issue - as can also be seen from comment above. It is probably inferior materials being used.

Yup , Took it to supertech on its service and mentioned it to the service advisor , He said no problem , they will replace it . But had to order the part , so they ordered that and I also mentioned that the drivers door lock pin was rattling , so they ordered that as well and replaced both . No more cracked buttons and no more rattle on door .
They also did it on a goodwill bases .
