F30 330d - Benefits of a Downpipe? advice needed

Howzit Guys

I know this has been probably discussed before , but i cant find anything Specific to help me make a decision.
I have owned a 2014 F30 330d since 2018 , the car was a one owner car (elderly gentleman) and had +/-75000km, currently has just over 103,000km now and from people i have spoken to, now is the time to fit a dp.
I have always liked suttle aesthetic mods oppose to performance mods, I've never tinkered and a complete novice in that area as honestly the 330d has enough power for me.

however I would like your guys expert thoughts on fitting a downpipe, i have a few questions.

1) how much louder will it be than stock? the S54 in my Z4 MC gives me all the eargasms i need and prefer the soft tone in the stock 330d
2) consumption? i know adding software after a dp will play an important role in this, but how much better or worst will it be after only adding just a dp?
3) resale value? i have no intention of selling anytime soon, but if i do in the future will it be less or more attractive to the next owner?
4) Reliability, in the long run will i experience any issues relating to a dp?
5) turbo longevity? is this really a myth or will it help

1) how much louder will it be than stock?
- you will hear abit more of the turbo spool, marginally louder with the windows down, not much difference with them up. Most of the noise difference is at WOT, N57 makes some good diesel noises
2) consumption? i know adding software after a dp will play an important role in this, but how much better or worst will it be after only adding just a dp? - the guys usually say and increase of 0.5l/100km is expected.
3) resale value? i have no intention of selling anytime soon, but if i do in the future will it be less or more attractive to the next owner? would depend on the buyer, car wont be able to be sold with finance easily - due to the "performance mods" - most enthusiast would appreciate the DP imo.
4) Reliability, in the long run will i experience any issues relating to a dp? unlikely
5) turbo longevity? is this really a myth or will it help - personally, i dont think it adds to longevity - provided services are done, temps are reached before WOT, and cool downs are done - basically the normal stuff and you should be fine. it will help longevity if you are doing short trips from what i hear.

You generally cant go wrong with a DP...very slightly louder, quicker spool, holds boost longer, more power, I noticed reduced consumption when I wasn't using the extra power.

Maybe a drawback can be the increased amount of diesel smoke emitted and the harm to the environment caused by removing the DPF?

One drawback I had on my OPC was slightly higher oil consumption due to the lower pressure behind the turbo. But thats on a Opel, what else would one expect

I was always planning to have the DP done at 100k, as I've heard that it makes a difference to turbo longevity, simply because there is less restriction on it due to decreased back pressure caused by the CAT/DPF. Whether or not this can be backed up by facts, it also has other benefits that an enthusiast would appreciate.

Also planning something, and dont really want the increased sound.
Have a DP on a 320d E90. It is noticably louder.

There is no such thing as enough power.

DP & SW go hand in hand. Pull the trigger

I think you need @Morribiscuit's input on this one 😁

 

[Xcede Performance]

The main pro of downpipe is that there is less restriction, as a result the exhaust gasses can escape faster from the turbo.

This keeps your turbo cooler and improves throttle response.

Basically lower EGT's are achieved which is healthy for the turbo.

As mentioned already, you do hear a bit more (on start up I thought) as well as more from outside. That fridge back box still conceals a lot of the noise, so it wont be unpleasant at all.

Dp was not enough for me, hence I went full 76 straight through. And even that I don't find unpleasant but maybe I am a hooligan.

I think the pros outweigh the cons - given how affordable doing a dp these days is.

I say go for it.

Very true words Mr. Hooligan ha hah ha! DP alone with normal system is still very subtle IMO...once you fiddle with the rest it does get louder so basically OP can adjust to his liking but as long as DP is done then your turbo benefits at least taken care off.
