Good day fellow members this is actually my first post here and i just wanted to find out something from people that are more educated on the topic than I am. I daily a 320d 2014 f30 and it has 260k on the clock. I am taking it for a service soon and my mechanic who is well experienced working with BMW's advised me that its time for me to decat my car because the cat should be clogged up. He said he wont charge me ( I'm aware that he will most likely sell my cat ) which is fine by me. Now i wanted to know if this is a good choice. I know with that much mileage the cat is definitely had its fair run. I would like to know the pros and cons of this and if i should do it or just leave it :) .

Thanks in advance

Id he is going to do a decat, he must build a proper downpipe for you, not open the cat, empty the guts and weld it back together again.
Yes the CAT has has its fair run with that mileage for sure...so good idea to get it done but a proper downpipe is required.

Hi bud

To add to what Ash has said, if your mech doesn't agree to a downpipe, tell him to leave the cat as is and take your car to a decent exhaust shop in your area and get a downpipe made - they can either knock off the cost of the cat from the dp or give you the cat back and you can sell it to recoup the costs.

Guys we do this everyday, it's straight forward.

The better way is to replace with a downpipe and map the car after.

We've done hundreds of these diesels with great results. These cars are running for many years with zero issues.

Just this week alone we have 4 diesels from BMW fanatics members booked in here at the Linbro branch.
