F30 320d not starting

Hi All.

I have a funny problem, well not so funny.

when I press the start button the only thing that happens is a click in the engine. no crank nothing. then after about 2-3 minutes of pushing the start button it starts.

there have been a couple of times were is takes 30 min before it starts.

the Dealer has had the car and they said that it was the battery not being able to generate the full current needed to start. my answer was then why does it sometimes start first time?

they replaced the battery and bingo it worked without hassle for 3 days and now the problem is back. dropping the car at the dealer tomorrow.

car is out of plan so any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks
Errol.

Yes.

I have had the car for two years now and this happened once last year and now it has just gotten worse over the last 3 months

It could be that the battery on the tracker is dead and eating your car battery over night? Maybe worth a look into.

Hi Guys

I checked the voltage when I arrived home and the battery was sitting at 12.66V and this morning when I left it was 12.52V. yes I used a millimeter and yes I tested across the battery terminals.

I do not think that it is the tracker unit. Oh well not sure now were to look.

Did you try and measure your voltage when you crank the car? you might find that when you crank the car, your battery voltage drops too much :tiptoe:

Not tried that yet. that is what the dealer said was happening and this is why the changed the battery as they said the battery could not handle it.

the car is now sitting at GP Motors, they have helped me in the past so maybe hey will find it.

if that is the problem then what is the cause and cure?

Two days in the shop and nothing. No faults and not causing the faults either.

WOW BMW is a clever car. it fixed the problem by its self.

Nope no sign at all. The car battled to accelerate for a few seconds, then cut out soon after. I could describe the way my car responded to starting, just the way you did yours, with no warning lights on the dash. Glad to hear you found the problem.
