Hi guys

I've seen on youtube people using bimmercode to code in features in their cars. Anyone local using the app? If so what adapter are you'll using with it?

Otherwise, what other app / software are guys using to code in / out features in their cars?

You will need to get an ENET Interface Cable (OBD to Ethernet). I used E-SYS to code my vehicle.

You can use Bimmercode to code the F series vehicles. Pretty simple to use and well worth it if you want to activate things like DVD in motion, and change the welcome lights etc. I use a Bluetooth dongle and it works a treat.

I use e-sys and E-net

The cable is easy to find off Amazon or AliExpress. AliExpress is cheap but takes a long time, but it gets here eventually. OBD port, some CAT6 cable, a resistor and an RJ45 on the other end. No special electronics. Bid or Buy has them sometimes between R250 and R1500 depending on how much of a chancer the seller is :roflol:

I will swing past a place tomorrow to see if they have OBD2 connectors, though with a complete, tested cable ex China for under R200 it is hard to imagine this will be a worthwhile exercise.

What bluetooth dongle do you use? I was looking at the vgate icar pro 4 but now on bimmercodes website they say as off recent those dongles may not always function 100%

e-sys is the program that you use and ENET is the cable. It is an OBD2 to ethernet cable. You connect it to your laptop's network port.

It really depends on what you're trying to do. for basic stuff like mirrors folding at different times, DVD in motion or lighting settings etc, the app and dongle will work fine. You can use this to do even complex retrofits (when you're changing hardware as well - eg surround view, lane departure warning etc.). Not sure if the apps can do this now.

The vgate reader won't work with e-sys. not sure if they will work with bimmercode.

What I am going to try to investigate is how much it costs for the male connector itself (the 'raw' connector without anything attached) to see if it is worthwhile making up a cable.

I'm looking for basic coding like folding mirrors, m sport logos on the dash, warning brake lights etc.

Does E-Sys do this over and above the retrofit coding?

Have a look at ICarly website, they show you what is possible to code for the different series of BMW.

If it’s in there for your car, let me know and I can assist as I have the app and cable.

Pm me if you interested.
