F30 20d tuning & DP

Hi Guys,

The time has come to do a few mods on my car.

Planning to keep it for a while as I quite enjoy it the car

I want to do the Downpipe and Tuning. Not too stressed about fuel economy. I like the feeling of the torque too much to worry about fuel consumption much.

I do not want a full exhaust so the DP and DPF removal is a better option for me.

I called ACE in Durban to do the Downpipe. they have a special currently for Stainless Steel, Mandril Bends, Argon Welded DP for R1900. I am not too familiar with exhausts so some feedback on whether this is a good type of DP will be cool.

I have heard lots of good feedback about RK Motion & Xceed Performance and have started chatting to the guys there to get an idea of what they can offer me.

Would like to know your thoughts on the path I want to take.

You should do it. I will be doing my 120d as soon as motor plan expires next year.

Fuel consumption will actually improve with software and DP.

I had RK software and the gains were great and reliability, not a days problem.

You could also do a FMIC, really helps with heat soak.

That downpipe price from ACE is very reasonable you should definitely do it.

WRT software I also have RK Motion a few years now and love it. Ricardo offers great customer service as well.

Do the DP at Ace and then you have many options for Tuners.

My personal preference is Xcede. Have had many cars tuned with them over the years and won't look elsewhere.

Did my downpipe on my f30 330d and wont look back. The cat nearly coverd the complete cost of the dp. I still need to do software and main reason is to get that egr to stay close. That exhaust gas cloggs the intake

Hi,

We do many of these every month.

We have the downpipes ready made in stock, 304 Stainless steel tig welded.

Most customers opt for a stage 2 remap, with the dpf, egr, VMax and swirl-flaps disabled.

Not essential but highly recommended is also the XHP gearbox flash to remove those torque limiters, increase the line pressure and speed up the shifts in sport.

Below is a dyno graph of one done recently in Jhb.

Ace in Durban is good for your hardware. I'd go with Xcede for ECU/TCU flash (xhp as mentioned above)

Got Your down pipe fitted. Just a question. I had a ppk fitted way back when car was under MP and I found that the Shifting in sport also changed when they fitted the ECU and programmed the car. So when having x2 identical 330d but one with ppk will the one with the ppk perform better than the standard one when the tune is loaded? Dont think the ppk intercooler will make a huge diffrince its only a bit bigger than the standard cooler

Hi,

It's really difficult to give a definite answer.

One car might have a stronger fuel pump tham the other and be able to run higher rail pressure.

F30 330d's also came with two different types of turbos, obviously the one with the larger turbo is a bit stronger on the high rpm.

There's also different firmware versions that these cars come with from the dealer which certainly does make a difference when tuning.

All things equal, the car with ppk will most likely be a bit more consistent on back to back runs due to the larger intercooler.

Thanks for te info. I appreciate it. Interesting about the turbo and firmware. Tell us more. The Firmware is this the software upgrades they perform? How is it possible the bigger turbo as realoem only list 1 part number for the facelift and pre-facelift?

Correct firmware updates are done by the dealer.

The case of two different turbos being used in the F30 330d has been discussed on many other forums, you would need to physically check the plate on the turbo.

Please send a PM for any more 30d questions, OP created this thread for 20d
