F25 X3 test drive and debate thread

I think the diesel is the more sensible option
I just could not convince myself to buy a diesel at the time to be honest
The petrol head me enjoyed the boost and the experience more of the petrol engine
So i suppose it all comes down to what is important to you in a vehicle
Either way the F25 is a great all round package

This itch is not going away, and may have a window of opportunity open to make things happen.

I have a few questions for owners:

1) please post your fuel consumption figures (model and values)

2) any idea if the 17in wheels will fit over the 35i or 30d brakes? I am curious

3) Tyre prices for 17in, 18in and 19in?

4) what specs/options are worthwhile and what are not required

5) any other major things to look out for or to consider?

F25 3.0d fuel consumption open road 14 -15 km/l, city is 10 - 11km/l the exclusive drives softer than the sport. Reverse camera is nice, nav is better than older models, look on the internet for all the options

On the 35i on average it reads 14,5/100
Long road is about 11/100 on average
Reverse camera is a must and Satnav is nice
I have the sports pack as well as exclusive pack on mine so have most nice features, Panaramic sunroof, xenon, sport seats, sports bumpers and wheels, etc
I also have the electric tow ar thats hidden away when you don't need it. I have never needed it
I am missing electric seats and the steering wheel warmer
Also would have liked the upgraded sound system.
19" tyres are around r4500 each but visually is very appealing.

I average between 6-7 l/100km on the open road and around 8.5 in town.
I got the sport... purely for the looks...no regrets.
Xenons are a must.
I miss the reverse camera and auto tailgate.

Hi Gav,

Have you managed to decide on an X3 yet?

I'm in a similar predicament, as I am looking for an X3 for the girlfriend, but not sure if I should look for a lower mileage 20d or take the deal I am getting on a 30d. My main concern at this point is resale otherwise the 30d is a no-brainer. Also not sure if I should look for a sports pack or settle on the exclusive?

The other option is to put in a bit extra and buy an X5. Again, concern is resale as we will put a fair amount of mileage on the car.

I just took delivery of my 20d X3 this weekend.

I recon it has good power for everyday use and pretty light on fuel.

yes the 30d and 35i might be quicker but the 20d I feel is sufficient for the type of car it is. And I got a good deal on one with motor plan in tact.

@Viv: I've been looking off and on, but currently not pursuing anything on the car front, have a potential property deal in the pipeline.

In my opinion the M-sport pack just looks better, although I have seen a few very nice looking exclusive models- colour and wheel option seems to make a big difference aesthetically.

The 20d is probably fine as a daily, it has enough grunt for most situations. Over the years I have sampled many BMW 6cyl motors which is why I lean in that direction- great engines.

I think with an X5, the market will be even more limited in years to come when you need to sell on again. Unless you really need the extra space I wouldn't go that route.

Check on gumtree as well, from time to time a private sale pops up which may be better value than the dealer asking prices (which are criminal compared to trade in values)

Think we will pull the trigger on the 30d Exclusive. Getting a decent deal on it from BMW and has the torque and extras I want.

Club motors Fountains got a 2011 3.0d exclusive with 46000km on

Don't look at anything less than the 3.0d, the amount of torque you have is amazing and exactly what a 1800kg auto SUV needs. The rest of the motors in the range are left wanting and not the right choice for a vehicle of this size.
