F25 X3 3l diesel road trip

My son and myself drove up to Pta last Tuesday and came back on Thursday/Friday and was a nice drive there and back. He wanted to buy a cable drum trailer (a trailer that can carry a drum of cable for his fibre install business) which we towed back with the newly fitted tow bar on my X3. Car handled the trailer without breaking a sweat. This car really is a pleasure on the open road as it makes mincemeat from hills and overtaking. Average consumption was about 13,5km/l going there and about 10,5k/l coming back. Trailer weighs about 385kg empty. Had to pass lots of trucks on the way there but coming back there were more trucks coming from ahead than on our side going to Cape Town. Road conditions were very good with no road works along the whole way. Tar is a bit bumpy between Hanover and Richmond but no potholes to speak of. Was nice to have had a capable co-driver.

The N57 motor is a peach.
I regularly average just below 6l/100km on an open road on my 330d .
even combined consumption with lots of traffic and short trips it doesnt go higher than 8l/100km.
Noting the power and torque on tap they really are remarkable
