F20 118i Drivetrain fault

So... yesterday afternoon the 118i decided to go into limp mode :thumbdo:
Some drivetrain fault - called the dealer and advised that the car is operable but it's serious..

Yesterday evening I decided to check the car out again, it had since cooled down.. started just fine, fault was gone, boost was back and all seemed well and no warning lights were on..

Car was dropped off @ the dealer this morning and it's still there undergoing diagnostics..

My best guess: a faulty sensor/vanos/turbo?

My GF's mom has had a drivetrain issue, BMW could not solve it. She is now trading the car in its so bad:yuck: beware, I hope its not the same!

I had the same error a few months ago, took it to dealer they took all day to tell me they don't know whats wrong. It hasn't happened since will wait for car to get stuck IF it happens again, then take it in as a break down and have BMW take it more seriously.

Thanks for the valuable advice, appreciate the info! But on a more global note, I think we all know BMW build quality, reliability, etc is a thing of the past so it does not surprise me even for the German built models.

She is on the road and purring like a kitten again

So how long did BMW take to replace the Vanos?

Car was out for 3 days... Day1 diagnostics, day2 Rosslyn guys came to dealer, ordered part, day 3 installed it..

Glad you sorted. Surprised to see a vanos needs replacing on a 12' car.

My SO recently purchased a 13' F20 118i Auto , hope we don't run into similar issues.

Sorry to re open an old thread, coldfusion / what was the end result here? Which dealer replaced your VANOS unit - because this is the fault Lyndhurst took 3 times to get "right" the first 2 times they CLEANED the exhaust solenoids and the last time they replaced the exhaust solenoids. I told them from the beginning I think my VANOS unit is faulty.

Ruddymohd- did your car get fixed?

Hi Dms7 I see you found my thread.. Yes the car had no power.. Sounds a lot like what yours is doing. BMW Alberante replaced the Vanos unit with a new one.

Rosslyn techs were called in to help. Car has been 100% since then.. It gives my F30 320d a hell of a run once it's on boost.. That says a lot.. Good luck!
