F10 Confused...

So last night, I went to visit a friend, whos parents just purchased an F10 528i.

Beautiful car, nicely specced, has this nice 18" wheel on it, which I had never seen before, it is an OEM wheel though.

We took the car for a drive, it goes beautifully.

Heres the confusing part, when we opened the bonnet, under there was an NA straight 6 power plant, 3.0L from what he told me...

I thought all of the F range were turbo charged vehicles?

Car is a 2012, it was purchased from Sandton Auto.

ETK lists the engine on a Mid-2012 528i to be the N20B20A. straight 4, 2l, 180kw with a twin-scroll turbo-charger.

First bunch of F10's were straight 6. It is possible that the one they have was registered late.

Thanks Max, it really puzzled me, i must admit... this is very interesting, i would now like to pull the history of the car and look at date of manufacture and when the m/plan was activated...

The turbo 2l was introduced from 2012 onward so that stock probably got to our shores 6-12 months after I would guess.

Could be, but also don't underestimate how long dealers keep cars in stock before they register them.

Auric Auto uses our office building's basement parking as their storage depot, you'd be shocked to see how much dust some of the brand new unregistered vehicles here have accumulated. Some of the F30s have been here for almost a year, so their owners will likely think they have 2015 models when in fact they're 2014s...

If I were buying a new car I would simply check the build date using the VIN and if it is not, for argument's sake, a 2015 car then I would refuse to take delivery. If you are buying a 2015 BMW, then you want a 2015 BMW...nothing else.

Agreed, but usually they sell these at huge discounts. I bought my 2014 125i (in 2014) with an early 2013 build date at R60k below retail! If I wanted the exact same car with a 2014 build date, they were only willing to give R30k discount.

That shape 523i was NA, speaking under correction but i doubt that there ever was a 528i F10 NA..sounds like they might have sold a 523i as a 528i, wont surprise me one bit.

Did you open the bonnet and look for yourself? Some salesman have no idea what they are talking about. I was told the M4 is a V8 twin turbo :roflol:
