Extending Motorplan M3 F80

Hi guys, have a 2015 m3 with 22k on the clock, purchased in February
Motorplan ends in September
Should I extend the motorplan, is there a chance that I could have motor or gearbox failures?
I'm completely stock standard and I see many guys tuning their S55. Is extended motorplan a real need.
In the event of a puncture with out motorplan what will my options be

I will appreciate any advice

You’re only extending time. Should be fairly cheap for 1 year and ease of mind. I’ve extended my M50d with 1 year about 2 months ago, I think it was R25k iirc.

Keep a space saver wheel in your boot for long trips.
Make sure it has the right spec to accommodate your M-Performance brakes.
Even with MP, depending on where you are stranded, it can be hours before BMW assist you with a spare wheel.
Some will say to just use the compressor kit, but that will be useless if you break a rim or have a bad tear.

Also, worthwhile signing up for the AA or similar premium roadside assistance service.
The service you get for free with your insurance leaves much to be desired.

Same dilemma for me. Plan is ending next year Feb. I have CCB's which is my main stress. Let us know when you decide and what other options come up.

I use AA - no brainer if you have many cars most of which won't have roadside assistance. As @"MR_Y" says the roadside assist from insurance is horrendous.

I would extend the plan in your position but more for peace of mind I don't think you will have major issues and you're not close to even needing a DCT service.

Had my extended for two years expires Dec 2022 cost R48k for 2years,
only prob is I have a bootmod license already but holding out for plan

Anyone did the crank hub fix on a F80 locally and any failures?

@UwaisPatel I'd go with this suggestion. And @TurboLlew is definitely someone who has calculated the feasibility of a number of options.

You can get a M3 sparewheel kit for added piece of mine. Also agree with the guys regarding the AA membership, especially if you have multiple cars as the membership is linked to you as an individual and not only a specific car. So you can use it for any car you are driving.

With respect to motorplan, yes their is an issue with the crank hub which affects stock cars also. I would definitely opt to extend for time just for an additional years worth of peace of mind, also easier to sell an M car thats still in Plan then one without it.

FNB Petrol Card (which comes with most account whether you use it or not) has free AA roadside assistance. If i were you, I’d take out a comprehensive warranty for approx R15k - 2 year/unlimited mileage (which will give you unlimited cover on all components even when sending to your BMW given that you currently have full agent history) and is quite a bit cheaper than the cost of motorplan extension. You would just need to budget for services which is relatively cheap.

Thanks guys, really appreciate your advice

I bought the car with Michelin super sports at the rear and Cup 2's in the front and at higher speeds around 180-230 I have a lot of road noise. Is this normal?

Bare in mind i moved from a smooth, slow lexus to a M3

I have an aftermarket downpipe that was removed just before I purchased the car as the car was due for its 20k service and is still under motorplan

I am a bit hesitant to install the downpipe, the reason being, in the case of a breakdown and bmw asses the car and finds the downpipe, will this void my motorplan?

Stay away from any SW or hardware mods if you have MP. BMW will find any excuse not to pay. You either mod and forget about the MP or stay stock. Anyone else who says otherwise, ask them to foot the bill.

What comprehensive warranty would you recommend?

If you can spare the extra cash to extend with BMW then do it especially if you plan keeping it stock.
If you plan to mod, take out an unlimited cover at a 3rd party before the motorplan expires. You get full unlimited warranty cover if your car is still under the manufacturer warranty.

I would recommend Motorite or Hollard and to stay away from anything underwritten by Innovations group.
That being said, no claim is guaranteed with 3rd party warranty on failure. BMW Motorplan FTW

But, brakes/pads and other maintenance items will not be covered with a warranty.
Which should be fine for a 320i, but M3 brakes require a 2nd mortgage....
