Hi Guys,

I have been looking to extend my motor plan on my 320i which expires in 2022. BMW have quoted me R 34 000 for a 1 year/10 000 km extension, however a company called Engine-Room/Motovantage contacted me via Wesbank to offer me a comprehensive motor plan which covers the car for an additional 3 years/60 000kms for R35 000. There covers has no limits and coveres everything currently covered under the BW motorplan.

Has anyone used Engine-Room/Motovantage for this sort if cover? Are they reliable/reputable?

I took out the unlimited cover through Engine-room which only covers mechanical. It was around 15k
Covers me unlimited mileage for 2 years with no cost limits on the components covered.

This option is only available if you take it out before your motorplan ends. its not available after your motorplan has ended.

I went with them because i know a few people that was covered by them and dint have any issues when it came to pay outs. (As long as you stick to the Ts and Cs)

Thanks @KarshS - I believe you may have taken out the extended warranty???

Engine-room also offers a full maintenance plan/motorplan which mimics that of BMW covering everything inclusive of wear and tear items such as Brake pads , wiper blades etc. The same condition applies that this needs to be taken out prior to your existing BMW motorplan expiring.

I was unsure of the reliability/reputation of this company but thanks for confirming that you use them and know of people who have claimed without any hassles.

Much appreciated!

Have used Engine Room twice before for extended mechanical warranties. Have claimed for a broken turbo and had no hassles with them, repairs done at a dealer. Will use them again for sure. As @KarshS said, for the mechanical warranty the trick is to take it out before the manufacturer warranty expires, that way you can take the unlimited cover, 2year unlimited mileage product. I personally won't extend the motor plan, just the mechanical warranty (which covers breakdown due to wear and tear - it's in the terms and conditions) and pay out of pocket for services...makes more sense financially to me.

I have a extended warranty through the Engine room. Busy claiming for something at the moment. Will let you know how it goes.

Your lucky with that price for service plan. I was quoted R180k from them for 2 year unlimited. I declined thank goodness because with lockdown my car hasn’t been used near as much and I have only had 1 service since then which was yesterday.

He was not quoted on a Service plan, it is an extended motorplan. The 3 products offered by them are:
1. Extended Warranty (What KarshS has)
2. Service Plan (Covers Service items only)
3. Extended Motorplan - Only can be done while vehicle's original motorplan is still active.

The cover for all above depends on whether you are still in Motorplan, still in warranty and your current mileage. The products are structured according to the service history as well and very well also declined should it not meet criteria.

Your R180k quote is exhorbitant but also relates to your service history, type of vehicle and the propensity for the vehicle to be high on maintenance etc etc etc. but R180k is hectic!

@AshG108 i have unlimited warranty. It can also only be taken out if your motorplan is still active.
If you take it out after your motorplan is over you have cost limitations on the component cover.

I stand corrected. It was for a motorplan.

I took the warranty while my car was still under motorplan with +-96k km in the month it expired.

Still no news on my claim. I guess I’ll have to follow up tomorrow.
