Exhaust Options

Hey guys,

Have any of you removed the one of your back boxes on your R53? I've heard of a few guys removing the center silencer box as well.

I think we can all agree that the cost of these exhaust systems here are ridiculous. Cheapest I've been quoted is R5000 for a complete kit with headers.

I like a lot of people enjoy a change. I just want to know if removing the back box will make much of a difference with regards to noise etc.

less boxes = more noise
headers are a must if you doing the exhaust

Yeah I thought as much for noise. But the gains on a full system are so minimal is it really worth the $ like a 7kw gain and a nice tone. I'm rather spending that on the Pulley and induction.

upping boost will always give you better gains... you could also put in a meth system... i dont know much about the mini but i would go that way

Gains from an exhaust is so little but then if it is done properly with added mods the gains can be huge......
R5k isnt bad for a branch and full system , try 15-20k for a xorst that is a rip off.......

cheap stuff are 9/10 times like a cheap gfriend its fun and games at first but ones the exitement has gone and everything starts to unravel THEN you realize you sitting with a heap of sh*t....

I wouldnt do that itll make your car sound like a "john dear tractor":hammerhead::hammerhead::hammerhead:

If you wana make your car more powerfull you first need to think what your goal is do you want to make it more nipppy ,have monster power or just play around.

After thats been decided on save up for your goal - i personally have wasted heaps of cash on sh*t like BAD QUALITY xorsts / branches etc and at the end I had to fork out even more which lead me to just stop and give up....(all be

Yip. Your right. That's why I decided to go for the Pulley 1st and full exhaust kit afterwords. Rather have a neat looking stock car than a riced up piece of Shizz.

Another thing. The intake kits. I've see a few around for about R2000. Then I've seen these guys who just slap in a cone filter. I'm not sure about some of these people....:banghead:

I have a 2006 Cooper S.
Best thing I did was the 15% pulley and removing the cat.
Car has more power and the exhaust is a bit louder, and the supercharger screams at a higher pitch.
The exhaust makes cool burbles when you gas off.

Next is a piggy back chip to get the fuel/air ratios right.
Only then will I go for a custom exhaust.
Then injectors, air intakes and a relocated intercooler.

It never ends...:)

Pretty much my route. How do you bypass the CAT sensor though? Whats the sort of costs involved with removing the CAT?

R4k for the decat and the pulley kit install.
The decat was about R800 and no issues with cat foolers as the MINI only has 1 sensor upstream of the cat, I think.

Worth every cent.

as for the conefilter - mmmmm - if its done properly, positioned correctly with heat shields etc it will benefit and compliment the other mods like ; pulley ,decat ,exhaust and chip.

This is will all be due to the fact that it makes the intake much more efficient. And please dont use that cheap shizz go for a proper k&n ,bmc filter as the other shizz sucks dust etc....

If im not mistaken ,ive read about k&n filters that even after 50'000km and not cleaning the filter once. it is still more efficient or breathable than your normal brand new filters......:thinking:

well good luck with your mods and let us know how it goes on the dyno.....:excited::excited::excited:

Yes I agree. I'd rather pay for things to be done properly.

I'm going this weekend to place to put the deposit down on the Pulley.
Then I got to wait a while for stock to come in before getting it done.

Think it includes dyno so very keen to find out!
