exhaust options - E46 330d

Hi there.

I'm looking for a more gruffier sound for the car.
Cat behind the turbo is already removed.
Don't want the chrome tailpieces sticking out ala E46 330i style but just want a deeper sound.

What are my options with the standard back box and other sound deadeners on the exhaust?

What can Dick at Powerflow do to give me some sound or any other decent exhaust shop ?

Personally I would not change the exhaust on diesel, because there is not much that can be gained in terms of better sound on a diesel, and you don't really want a loud diesel as they tend to not sound very nice (from my experience with a couple of diesel race cars)

I must agree. I did not change my whole exhaust but just my tail piece and regret it today as it smokes a lot more as the smoke is not directed at the ground anymore.....advantage of that is, when someone up your @ss, just drop gear and floor it....(I play magician) with smoke bombs......

Ive heard some really cool sounding polo 1.9 TDI's at the carwash. it sounded like a freaking jet, really like nothing ive ever heard before. and i must add that i HATE diesel sounds. but yes they smoke heavy when anything is done to the zorst.

looking forward to hearing the solutions. maybe the guy with the 900NM 330d can answer, cant remember his nickname now.

I had mine de-catted. They only cut the cat out and replaced with a straight pipe. Smokes a bit more, sounds very nice, deep, gruff 6 cyl sound. Even had this Nissan Almera spinning tires at the robots the other day. Me and the wife just bursted out laughing while I turned off. Don't think another xorst will make any difference to your car, maybe only the de-cat. And it cost me R140...

I am a bit pedantic when others work on my car, so took it to Supa Quik, told the guy to hoist the car, cut here and here, weld a piece in here, please and thank you.. So I was only charged for 20mins labour and a 20cm pipe...

This year , October 2012 I had Powerflow make me a 76mm downpipe to replace the standard one , no rasp anymore and the front silencer has also been removed.

Car sounds deeper (from inside the car) under hard acceleration.

Had someone rev the car for me cos apparently since I had it from 2008 it was'nt sounding like a diesel yet it had the standard exhaust on.

Now apparently from outside the car it also does'nt sound like a diesel according to everyone who hears it.

Turbo spoolup has increased again since going from standard diameter downpipe (55mm) to (76mm).

Need to remove the intercooler and clean it out , quite a bit of oil remnants there from before the time I serviced and replaced the O rings on the snail.

Went back to Powerflow , removed the middle silencer as well so only have the huge rear silencer now.
Car sounds slightly more bassier , a nice soft "boom" when it shifts into 4th and 5th gear and generally spools up nicely.

Mufflerectomy is what the TDI guys usually do... Basically removing the cat and silencers.

Then you hear the Turbo spool LOUD!!

Drove the car a bit now on the highway , the "boom" is not so bad and the sound when accelerating makes you wonder if this is a diesel that is being driven.
