I always loved the e30 325iS, but when I had a chance to buy a car with that legendary 2,5 ltr engine I jumped at it. It wasn't in the e30 shape, rather the e46 325i M sport. Test drive it around the guys estate and it went well.paid deposit and then collected a week later. Drive it on the motorway for the first time and did 130kms/h and found a shudder on the steering whelk. Didn't enjoy my first run in my new car. Had the wheels balanced and that sorted the problem somewhat but there was always a slight shudder which ran through the cabin. So the lesson learnt- always take the car out on the open road during a test drive.

So what lesson do you have to share

Bought a second generation jetta in the 90s with the purpose to build a drag car...the electronics got busted a couple of months after i bought it...without me even touching it. The dealer i bought it from said the previous owner also had an expensive motor repair on the car...eish. They dont tell you this when you buy it....

At least insurance paid up.

My regret was a E39 525i auto - frustratingly slow. Also discovered afterwards that the engine was changed with a 2nd hand one - my fault for not checking properly. I guess some things you learn afterwards.

Luckily I haven't bought an e-tag yet - so no regrets there :fencelook:

I should have fixed my 325i, by replacing the cylinderhead.
I am more sorry about the cars I sold than the ones I bought...

There was buddy, maybe it wasn't introduced in the south African market. You could get E60 520i in Europe aswell.

I once bought a E36 325 very inexperienced at the time, later found that it was a stolen and recovered. Learned valuable lessons from that mistake.
Now I just check with Cois before making a purchase. Thanks Cois.

Bought a Smart from this forum, had it delivered to Cape Town, blew a motor three days after I got it on the way back from Franschhoek.

Love it now.

E34 M5 :flyfun: dropped valves less than 2 months of ownership

+1
Mine burnt the valves 2 weeks after I got it, but the worst part about it is that the car (when it is working obviously) got under my skin which kind of explains why I had 2 additional ones of them afterwards
