You can know a lot but if you don't practice what you preach then you can't really be credible.

At the same time if you practice something but don't know alot about what you practising then you also can't be taken seriously.

An enthusiast is someone who is not only interested, but also spends a lot of time on that which he/she may be interested in or has a passion for. You don't need money for that.

100% Correct!

I also believe that money has got nothing to do with it.

I consider myself a fanatic, not because I drive a BMW (and I need everyone to think I must surely love the brand and the car to drive one), but because of how I have grown to love the brand over many years, and as many of you on here, have had a long and distinguished relationship with BMW.

I consider myself a BMWFanatic because of how I look after my car, how I treat it, how I clean it, How I drive it, How I park it, How I wash it, How I dry it, How I fuel It, How I service It, How interested I am in it, How I worry about it.

I consider myself a BMWFanatic based on how much I have been able to learn about the car inside and out from guys on here and from research and experimentation. I also consider myself a BMWFanatic based on the amount of time I spend on here day and night reading, commenting and contributing to it.

I am not here to tell people how many cars i have raced and how many car lengths it was by, or to "flame" other members when they say something I dont like. we all have opinions, and we are entitled to it. Its these varied opinions that make this forum what it is, or it would just be a forum filled with lemmings who agree with whatever teh mods or heavy posters say.

I am here to shut up and learn from the many experienced guys on here who have taught me so much about the Brand and the cars we all have grown to adore and be FANATICAL about. When I think I know more than someone on a particular subject, I will tell them what they need to know, not tell them they are an idiot because they dont know.

I am a BMWFanatic, because this forum is both a teaching and learning tool. Something we use to be more in tune with our cars. Yes, its true, when I die, I am not taking my BMW with me! But whoever gets it/inherits/buys it will have no doubt in his mind that the guy that owned it before him was a BMWFanatic.

Money has nothing to do with it. Its time and dedication thats all the difference.

Here is a little thing I wrote a while back about my ride on this thread: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=17439&pid=160459&highlight=buy+lunch#pid160459

:pimp:
OK, so here is what I did...

I excused myself from the office, stating that I had to go and buy lunch, and I rushed down 7 flights of stairs, because the lift was going to take too long to get me down to the parking, and to where my baby was waiting for me.

I swear to you all it was as if she was smiling when she saw me, and when I pushed the remote to open her, she politely flickered her indicators at me, then I opened her up and got inside her, slowly pushing my key into her ignition, only to hear her come alive as I twisted the key, closed the door, and put her into gear, dropped the handbrake, and slowly eased the clutch to let her creep forward, out of the parking area.

As soon as I turned into the road, exiting the building it was as if she was begging me to go hard on her, as if she was reading my mind, willingly letting me rev her up and dropping the clutch, she jumped, giving me a slight warning flicker on the dash, DSC, ensuring me she was there for me, keeping me safe, no matter what, and I took her word for it when I rounded the first corner, she gave me the satisfaction of breaking out the rear, just enough to give me goose bumps, before taking over control, and putting me back in my place.

2nd, into 3rd, and obviously no longer doing 60, I had to slow down because the lights were red, and then green and we are off again, I can hear her scream with total commitment, as I give it to her hard, shifting just before she hits her limiter, making sure not to damage her, and she screams with the sound of a wolf telling the world to watch out, here comes perfection, I shiver, no, quiver with delight as I hear her straight 6 heart beating, knowing that i must be the luckiest guy in the world, but then...

I realize I have to get back to the office, so I turn her around, reluctantly, but knowing that it's only a few hours till I get to do it all over again, and she won't mind one bit. As I steer her into the parking area at work, I can feel her telling me to make her scream out just once more, making her voice echo through the basement, giving me a final pleasure before I let her rest, turning the key, she goes quiet...

...and as I step away, pushing the remote, she blinks at me once more, as if to say: "till next time cowboy!! Till next time!!!"

My definition of a Fanatic:

If i see a fellow BMW driver on the side of the road ( very rear occasion ) i stop to make sure He/She is ok ( mainly the She part tho :) )

Giving way to other BMW drivers in traffic and not letting a merc in lol!!

And you know you are a BMWFanatic when the first thing you do when you get to work befor even making coffee is open the browser and load the "new posts" page and refresh it all day long!!!)

I disagree with you completly saturnz..

I know plenty of 15 year old boys that are enthusiastic about something, but dont have a frikken clue whats it about, nor the money to afford it....

It is not about the cash at all.

My ST sodt the same as my bmw. And the amount of money i spent on the ST was way more then i will ever spend on the beem.

So its not sbout the cash. This Forum is just a whole lot different then th ST one.
You guys never have anything bad to say about a bmw. And if a guy did a bad job you try to help him on how to correct or give advice.

This doesn't happen on the ST site. Its just on moerse comp on who has the best looking, fastest ST.

It is not about cash at all.

ALL I SAY IS I LOVE MY BEEM 10 TIMES MORE THEN I DID THE ST.
AND ITS NOT JUST A CAR TO ME. IT IS A PASSION. IT IS A WAY OF LIVING.

Right now I'm STILL waiting for the clutch to be fitted to my 540. As my mechie didn't know when I'll be bringing the clutch (Had to wait for it to arrive from the states), he made bookings for other vehicles. The car has been standing a month and I'm REALLY starting to suffer from withdrawal... like really. I NEED that V8 in my life, I NEED the noise, I NEED the awesome handling, I NEED that interior, I just NEED it.

... or maybe I'm just hungry. Only had a piece of toast for breakfast :mmm:

Have to take a late lunch. Without the 540 I have to play taxi with the 318i and pickup my brother from school.

Whats your definition of an enthusiast?

To me an enthusiast is someone who backs up his passion with money. If you don't have the money you are just a fan.

then there's this guy.....
