Hello,

I have the folowing problem 135i N54 ,101 000km

Last night the fan came on for no reason what could it be ?

1) I start the car
2) Wait 1-2minutes
3) Outside temp 10 degrees
4) The Engine fan turns on for a couple of seconds/maybe a minute then off again and it would keep do that doenst matter if the car is cold or warm.
5)checked oil and water no issues
6)there is a loss of power but still boosting slightly
7)No Eninge light on the cluster
8)car is not overheating

Anyone had a similar problem or could point me inthe right direction, cause to me i thinks its the temp sensor but that doesn't explain the power los .

You would have to get it diagnosed. Usually a fan that comes on for no reason tends to be a busted thermostat, but assumptions will just make you endup spending a lot of money without sorting the issue out.

A lot of users on the forum would help with diagnostics, or better yet check on gumtree and get yourself the cable to diagnose yourself, it will make life easier going forward. They typically rangr between 400 and 900 for the cable and software

I have a Dcan /Inpa cable what software do i need , Also what should i look for since there is no engine light/fault code?

Would a faulty thermostat not make the cat overheat or take ages to warm up?

Like others have said, get diagnostics done. I'm also leaning towards a possible water pump issue; probably there's a communications failure with the pump thus the fan kicking in. This will not throw up an engine light.

I know some F30 335i has a similar prob where the fan also kicks in but then doesnt shut off, but fan kicks in on stage 2 being full full blast and very loud.
When driving normally it will just begin.
While the fan is on and you try to give it beans full power is not there. Protecting itself...
But the fix was the sensor on the fan itself.

But here is some more reading - http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=786475

Not sayinf the E82 has the same prob - but can be something as small as that...

Thank you all for the advise I had the car scanned via MHD .

The following faults were found.

2A99-DME: Crankshaft-Exhaust camshaft,Reference.
2E81-DME: Electrical coolant pump,speed deviation.
2E82-DME: Electric coolant pump,cutoff.
2F8F-DME: Accelerator pedal module and brake pedal, plausibility.
2F9E-DME: Oil Level.
3100-DME: Boost-Pressure control ,Deactivation.

Well there you go, coolant pump seems an issue. There would appear to be a duff solenoid valve, or sludge in vanos for the exhaust cam. This may be caused by the low oil level error as well.

That being said, it's impossible to say how long these errors have been there or if they're relevant still. Dealer level diagnostics will actually show the mileage when these errors occurred so would help in validating what's currently an issue on the car.

Not related but take it easy on the brake boosting the car of the line...

Had the exact same codes 2E81 and 2E82 when my waterpump failed

Glad you sorted.

Could you share with us how much did it cost for the pump and thermo?
Did you DIY it?

I Bought them at Imcomex Centurion since Goldwagen didn't have stock .

I paid R6,500 for the combo , received dealer discount normal price is +-R7,200.
