ENGINE WASHING IN BEEMOWS>>>>

Something that has always worried me, was by spraying a high pressure hose to clean an engine.Does it do damage to the engine ,in the long run or not? Surely it cant be good to moving parts and bearings in the engine.Yes it cleans etc etc and the engine looks good. But effectively is it worth it. On the otherhand, how can 1 maintain an engine clean if you dont use it.Are there other methods that you Fanatics clean yours?

What I do, is I just give everything that I can in the engine bay a wipe down with a damp cloth and toilet paper for oily bits, this prevents the caking of dirt, and by cleaning it often you don't have to do extencive cleaning, bit this is just what I do.

Ok. That is one method, but the dust will still remain. Maybe just by blowing air with a decent compressor will do the trick.Who knows.

I also like the idea of the air. Normally most of the dirt in engine bay is dust which can mostly be blown away with compressor with nozzle. High pressure water have need been a option to me as there could always by accident get water into so electronics we it should not be, unlikely but not impossible.

My Engine cleaning method is a s follows..

Get yourself some prepsol degreaser...

Spray it all over cold engine..

Let it sit for 15 minutes with car in shade

Scrub heavy dirt deposits with a brush

Spray off with garden hose.. I would use a pressure cleaner if I had one But would spray carefully avoiding any electrical stuff, but with the garden hose I just spray everything

If you extra fussy, Remove radiator & airbox & Window washer bottle to clean under there

I also followed the same steps with my E36 & engine is also nice & clean

A guy I know once decided that his car's performance was down. :bawling:
He decided to go to Midas and asked for engine cleaner. :excited:
So needless to say they gave him the stuff you spray over the engine to degrease it.
He went and poured it into the petrol tank cause he wanted to clean the engine...
You can guess what happened next :cursin: :banghead: :slap: :censored:
He then had to go and get quotes for a total engine rebuild.
After that I told my brother to NEVER try and work on his own car again!!!
I should have "Skiet die bliksem!!" but ja, being my brother I just laughed.

Wow Andrewbuch. That engine is clean.Where does 1 buy this Prepsol degreaser from,my i ask.

When we got the E46, the engine was dirty, oil messed all over the front of it.. Cleaned it up nicely,
Still has some oil behind the belts that I cant get to.

You get it from Builders Warehouse Or Auto Parts shops.

There are lots of other engine cleaners out there, but I find prepsol the best as its not "petrol" based and is safe for plastics. I used to buy it in the 5 Litre container. Also good stuff for cleaning up oilly garage floors

Its also available in 500ml bottles, its a white bottle, with red lid & red writing & pink liquid..
