Hey Guys I Recently Cracked The head on my BMW 318ti E46 they want to charge me R13k to fix it Iv done some research and I recon if im going to spend that amount of cash I may aswell fit the E 36 325 motor and get more out of the 6 cylinder motor which is also much better for tunning instead of repairing the the sluggish N42 motor.I need this done urgently any one know where I can get this done In the Gauteng area and how much it will cost? PLEASE HELP:

you right about the swap making more sense, but it probably wont be a quick job... so if you in a rush you will have to get the head fixed instead...

i would way rather fit a 6cyl though :rollsmile:

Does 6cyl motor bolt on 4 cyl gearbox ? You would need ecu . Cost of motor - say R12K , cost of labour say R8K , ecu and others maybe R6K .

IMHO the motor can give more power but will cost a bit .

I would say here rather try and get a donor car for the transplant, then at least have everything you need, will also work out cheaper in the long run as you don't have to buy bis here and there.

Also I would rather recommend rather using the M54B25 engine as it paired with all its bits cluster, DME, LKM etc will be a straight fit into your ti.

There was/is an e46 328i for R20K on gumtree - IIRC it was for spares due to front smash .
