Hi All,

This morning on my way to work the engine hot light(Yellow) went on it quickly changed to Red.

Should i take my car in to the dealership or check the coolant?

Is this a serious problem?

Please help urgently as I do not want to cause any serious damage to the motor.

My car is 2006 E90 323i Manual (Sport pack + Individual)

Thanks a mil

Don't post this now dude. You should've been at the dealer already. Better still get them to come fetch the car with a flatbed.

You do not want to overheat those engines. They don't like it.

Post the outcome afterwards.

Good luck bud.

Thats more then likely a waterpump or radiator failure, topping up with coolant wont help dude.

DO not... I REPEAT... do not let that car overheat, or you will be rebuilding/replacing that motor, and it will cost you more then that car is worth :(

Thanx a lot Guyz.
Just called the dealership to make arrangements and called on-call to get the car towed in.

Hopefully its not too serious. Its really scary as these things could be very very costly.

Guyz any idea would this be covered by Motorplan?

If it is not because of something you did, it will most def be covered under motorplan.

I've noticed on My E39, it can't overheat.. infact, the needle can't even go over halfway..
I had a waterleak once, when the water starts getting really low, the car cuts power 50% clean, and then after a while if u carry on driving, it switches off..
replaced cracked pipes, problem gone.. dunno if thats normal to cut out, but its quite good I think..

Hi All,

Just picked up my car. They replaced the water pump and the thermostat.

Car is moving fine so hopefully its fine now.

Everything was covered under motorplan and fortunately they managed to sort it out within a day.

Thanx,
Happy and safe driving.

to add something similar a few months ago: eratic heating till red part of gauge then return to normal within a few moments. does this occasionally and cannot replicate on que. turned out to be the thermostat. similar problems occurs on E39. In case one of you had this on your e46.
