This is good news. I was initially under the impression that the honey golden colour was the sign of a well maintained engine and feared that mine had been poorly maintained/ abused by the previous owner. Mine is definitely a varnish and not sludge as it is almost impossible to clean/remove with moderate effort. I'll be changing oil every 10k now and am keen to move over to Liquimoly products after hearing such successful reviews.

Every 10000kms is the way

There's some people out there who believe that the oil is good for 20-25000kms just because it's fully synthetic

The pic I posted was of my head when the tappet cover gasket was changed.

This is what Peter commented on my thread:

That motor looks clean.....obviously not maintained at BMWs mandated 25000Km oil change intervals.

Although I am now dropping my oil change intervals to 12500km, up to now it was only changed according to the service indicator which was 20-25k km, yet still looks good.

So although it is advisable to change oil sooner than the OEM interval, it seems like it's not the end of the world if it was...

I think there are two different issues at hand. While the difference between the vehicle having its oil changed at 25000kms versus that of say 12500kms may APPEAR negligible from the honey varnish coating being present in both, the condition of the engine internals such as bearings and other essential lubricated components may possibly be vastly different. What im trying to say is that overall engine condition most likely cannot be determined simply by the appearance of the upper visible components, except in extreme cases such as that of the aforementioned CSL and that of a clearly sludge covered engine. At the end of the day, you want your oil change intervals to allow the engine to perform strongly, efficiently and reliably - and not just to create a pretty sight when the tappet cover is removed...
