Engine oil leak

Hello good people..

I have a 320i e90 facelift bmw msport.

2 issues I want to sort out.

1. The engine oil is leaking. There is oil splashing on the side of the engine on a silver plate object. I'm not sure if the pic got attached. What could be the result of this. Is it the head gasket?

2. She is smoking a lot. I'm not sure if this is related to the oil leak

1. The oil leak could be from the tappet cover gasket
2. Is there smoke through the exhaust or from the engine bay. If from the exhaust then it could be valve stem seal and if from the engine bay then it could be the leaking oil being burnt on the exhaust manifold.

Both are common issues on the E90 320i

Hi,

I know my 130i is not the same engine as yours, but my oil leak was because of:

A broken bolt on top of the oil filter housing
2 worn oil filter gaskets
and a worn out valve cover gasket

I did not have any smoke problems though. Maybe have a look at your valve cover gasket while you're at it anyway, just for preventative measures if possible.

Had both issues on my 320i tappet gover gasket went and my valve stem seals. If you do the valve stem seals they automatically need to replace the gasket. On some 320s they also need to replace the tappet cover itself.
