engine making a very strange noise

Hy Guys!!!

I just had my e46 318i, the engine was in pieces(inboot) got a mechanic who put the whole thing together and when he was done the car wouldn't start, could cranck but won't start...i found this auto electrician who diagnosed the car and found the fault to be from the computer box , he fixed it and he started the car but now the beemer has a very strange diesel engine like sound from the engine and looses power and has less acceleration at times....#stressed!!!!!!

can anyone please point me in the right direction i really really would appreciate your help.!!!

Why was it appart in the first place?

If I am not mistaking, disa valve, vanos seals and pcv valve can make those noises, try to isolate the sound to a specific point in the engine bay
